Leather or pleather??

I finally went to check out the 3G. What a disappointment I had after seeing the seats! Shame on the cows that produced it and double shame on Acura for using it in a $45-$50K car! even humble Pilots have a much better finish.
I have a 2013 MDX tech and the quality of the leather is much better than on the 3G.

Pilots dont have real leather...its pleather. Or plastic bonded leather. Just like my 2007 TSX.

The new 2014 MDX has real Napa leather.

Did you not like it because it was different or was there something that was wrong with it?

Lasts for 10 years easily with minimal upkeep. I'd say that worth more than leather seats that are failing or cracking like I see regularly in TT's and high end cars.

I didn't like it because it was hard and rough to the touch.
The bumpy texture reminded me of Godzilla.

Really? Do you have info to back this up? The Honda site states "leather-trimmed interior".

Not sure I agree with this. I have the 2014 Advanced and the perforated leather feels very nice. I also test drove the base and Tech models with the standard leather, and didn't notice anything uncomfortable or cheap about it.

Godzilla leather? Wow that is pretty indestructible stuff! Someone else commented that they felt the leather was rough. I guess its all relative.

Typically with Honda/Acura products the parts that touch you are leather, the parts on the sides and back are matching vinyl. Most people hardly notice.

I too bought a AWD MDX Tech, but find the quality and finish for the "Perforated Premium Milano leather" to be very nice.

I figured as much

Most people like it, some are meh about it. It is different than previous leathers that acura has used. I like it more because of that texture you speak about. It helps my big butt from sliding around in the curves.

+1, I too purchased the 2014 AWD Advance Tech Package MDX and I really liked the perforated leather. It actually felt nicer than my 2012 Advanced AWD TL.

Agree.

Much nicer than the perforated leather on even the top-trim 4G TL.

not at all true. It is NOT Nappa or Milano leather on the tech and base. The Advance gets Milano, which is still below Nappa.

Keep in mind in the USA, Tech and Base get the crappy "leather" with no perforation. Only the Advance trim in the US gets the Perforated Milano Leather. Previous Gen 2 MDX tech got milano, and advance got perforated Milano. The base and tech leather of 2014 reminds me of crappy old BMW leatherette, in both appearance and feel. If I wanted a "durable" leather that is rough and aesthetically unpleasing, I'd have bought a cheap Ford truck. Even the leather in Toyota's is nicer than the 3G Base and Tech. Lexus and Audi leather is extremely better, softer, and doesn't look cheap.

^^^^^

Maybe this is why the equivalent-trim Canadian MDX costs so much more than the equivalent-trim US MDX.

May have added to the cost plus a few extra things in the Canadian model however cars and other things generally cost more in Canada than the US. I have done groceries in US at Walmart and other stores when on holidays and on a comparative basis I would have spent pretty close to double in Canada for the price in the US. The retailers always mention the higher cost of doing business in Canada as compared to the US. Only they know what the higher costs are.

The 2014 Acura MDX Advance has very nice leather and the seats are very comfortable. Anyone looking to buy one should go to a dealer and do a test drive to see for yourself.

Honda has never used leatherette that is a German invention. All Honda products that say leather come from cows. That may not mean all surfaces and it may not be of the finest grade but its always the real thing.
