Hybrid fuel consumption

Today I broke the first 1000 miles.
I am delighted to see that I am averaging 30.1 mpg with 31 mph mostly highway miles.
It is still not clear to me if there is cylinder deactivation. The window sticker clearly highlights the feature but from research I did a couple of weeks ago on an official Acura training site, it said that the feature was removed for the 2019 model.
In any case, I am getting 3 mpg more than what the car is rated. Phenomenal!

I have a little under 3000 miles mostly all city driving since March. My average is around 25.5 mpg using the miles divided by gas method. Speed limit is 65-75 mph and I usually drive 5-10 mph above that along with elevation from 5000-7500 feet. Planning the first road trip to San Antonio next month to see how the MDX travels compared to my 11 MDX. My 11 MDX was super comfy and smooth on the hwy.

Also calculating my fill-ups over the last 5,027 miles, I'm averaging 25.94mpg. About 20% of that is highway driving on a road trip. The rest of it is local city driving with an even split between 25-35mph and 45-55mph zones. I'm in Florida, so very little elevation change and average temperatures the last few months in the 90s. We basically keep it in 'normal' mode with an occasional switch to sport mode on higher speed limit roads. In the cooler months earlier in the year without road trips involved, I was seeing just over 27.5mpg.

After a year of ownership I average 21mpg, 40% street and 60% hwy. Sport + is used often with my fwy speeds at 80mph.

I assume the Hybrid models were fitted with 245 width tires for mpg purposes.

It would be nice if the sport hybrid came with a larger battery capacity with a plug in option to top off the charge for max EV mode. A lot of empty EV charging spots up close not being used in my neck of the woods with so many full size SUVs and pick ups being the norm.

Just to throw some comparative numbers out there - my wife's '18 RLX Sport Hybrid has been getting between 33 and 35 MPG's for the first 3k miles of ownership. Her "commute" is largely rural roads, with speeds between 35-50 mph with a bit of stop-and-go. Overall she tells me the EV mode is in place a large part of the time. When we did take a couple of "road trips" in her car (hour long trip with highway and rural) the MPG's drop to 31 or so. But overall we haven't had a fill cycle where the MPG's (displayed) have been under 30....

I understand the MDX has a different motor, is bigger and likely geared differently. I mean I get low 20's overall in my MDX. But the EV concept "can" produce some really impressive MPG's, especially if you don't really push the car into a more sporty driving mode....

I'm coming out of a 11 MDX Adv with 17-18 combined and as low as 14 mpgs in 100% city driving. Mid 20s is like heaven compared to mid teens in my 11 MDX; especially, when in southern CA at those gas prices (+$80 to gas up sometimes).

My wife consistently gets better mpgs driving than me in all of our cars. I mainly got the sport hybrid because of the "sport" aspects with the hp/tq increase, advance tq vectoring with Sport+ mode and electronic dampers. The bump in mpgs is just a bonus of having my cake and eating it too.

I had a '13 MDX that I'd regularly get mid-18's for mixed driving - best case is 21 on a long highway trip. So I agree, moving to the '17 MDX was like a dream in terms of MPG's. On a long highway trip I can easily hit 26 mpg which would never be seen in the '13.

And my wife also gets better MPG than I do. But amazingly if I refrain from going completely crazy when driving her RLX I can get similar MPG's. To me that was shocking :-)

My non hybrid 18Tech has averaged 22.08 for 2019, with a max fuel economy of 27.53.

I reset my Trip 'A' at each fill up but let the Trip 'B' counter on my 2017 Hybrid Adv keep going to 10,000 before it turns over back to 0 and my average for the last 10,000 miles was 26.4 mpg. That was probably 70% city driving. I have to say my Hybrid is two cars in one, part Sport and part economy. No problems so far at 24,000 miles.
