Funky smell from AC

We had some great weather with temperatures in the high 60s, and low 70s recently which made the AUTO temperature setting in my car start blowing colder air from the vents.

I noticed a funky, wet sock smell coming out. It doesn't always smell funky but whenever the cold air stops blowing intermitantly and (what seems like) when the outside air flows in, I get this smell of "toe cheese" into my cabin.

Has anyone else had this problem? I called the dealer and they said they would take a look but most likely I'll have to replace my filter. Even though I have only 3000 miles on my car they are saying I would have to pay for a filter out of pocket ...

Anyone aware of any spray or something that I can apply to my filter or have any suggestions?

That moldy smell should not be the filter, however a a faulty condenser can lead to iffy smells
