Carplay for MDX 2015

Keep in mind you'll need to buy the base Navtool unit too for about $300 first. At that point you would have phone mirroring (for phones that support MHL over HDMI, problem for some current gen Android phones), and then spend another $400 to have carplay with a controller. I find it hard to justify spending another $400 if you can already mirror your phone since carplay locks you into specific apps to use unless you jailbreak and use NGX.

Also . I was planing to switch to Android from iOS, so what you are saying is unlike iOS devices Android devices are not as simple as using an adapter to mirror phone to Nav screen?

I agree. I use Navtool myself and dont see a use of carplay. I think if you can mirror your phone into car's nav screen you are already above carplay .

Phones like the pixel and Galaxy s 7 got rid of mhl support so the mirroring won't work. The s8 has it back but requires specific adapters (check xda forums for compatible units). Initially the manufacturers were ditching hdmi support for displayport over usb-c, but I'm guessing some may be seeing that the transition isn't happening quickly.

That's not cool. Why would manufacturers ditch phone mirroring tech. It should be there in all phones I think. This means each update to the OS can have a potential risk or loosing mirroring tech and makeing my in car Navtool paperweight . Not sure what I am thinking can happen.

This whole CarPlay issue is very frustrating. Some manufacturers are accepting it, but many are fighting it.
