2020 MDX Sport Hybrid 74000 miles
2020 MDX Sport Hybrid 74000 miles
hello. I bought a car with 74,000 miles on it. The oil in the transmission was changed at 66,000 miles, according to carfax. I drove 1,000 miles and the transmission started jerking at about 1,600 rpm. Where to look for the cause? Should I change the oil? Please let me know.
I have a 19 MDX Sport Hybrid with +77,000 miles. A 2020 MDX Sport Hybrid with +75,000 miles normally should have had the 7DCT fluid changed twice (30k/60k) and the TMU fluid change three times (15k, 45k, & 75k). The things I would double check are:
- I try to change out the 7DCT and rear Twin Motor Unit (TMU) every 25,000-30,000 miles or 4 years max. Both units take the same DW-1 fluid and it is a 1X drain/fill for both. My Acura dealership charges around $205 for 7DCT and $130 for TMU.
- There is also a TSB #20-039 for updating odd gear monitor software. I didn't have any issues before the update and no changes afterwards with mpgs, shifting, or feel. Never researched on what issue the hybrid would have without the update?
- Depending on VIN, there is a fuel pump recall for Sport Hybrids. I had my fuel pump replaced in June/24 and had no issues before the fix.
- Does the hybrid still jerk in different IDS modes? Comfort/Normal IDS modes does have different shifting feel compared to Sport/Sport+.

You can sign up on the Acura Owner's website: https://owners.acura.com/service-maintenance/recalls
You can enter your VIN and you can have access to:
- maintenance history (if maintenance was done at a Honda or Acura dealership)
- download the owner's manual
- radio/navi codes
- recall/TSB for your vehicle
I would also contact your local Acura dealership to make sure your MDX is on the fuel pump replacement list. It could be the case your MDX might be on the recall list at another Acura dealership from the previous owner.

You could still sign up on the Acura Owner's website to see it there is a maintenance history for the Sport Hybrid. Might be a chance the fuel pump was already done or your VIN wasn't part of the recall? That would eliminate that as a possible issue. Most Acura owner noticed transmission problems are usually resolved with fresh fluid. Changing out the 7DCT and TMU would be the easiest step and you can check it off the list if that doesn't fix the 1600rpm jerkiness.

1. The fuel pump impeller was improperly moulded, resulting in low density impellers. Over time, the low-density impeller can deform and interfere with the fuel pump body, rendering the fuel pump inoperative.
2. Due to an uneven sealing surface, moisture can enter the tailgate lid light assembly and cause the light to fail. In some cases, the wiring harness could also short circuit and blow the fuse for some interior and the exterior lights, including the lid lights, position lights, license plate lights and taillights.
