19" wheels to a 20"

Hello all -

I was just wondering if anyone with an MDX that has 19" wheels that came stock changed them out and went with a 20" instead? I'm surprised Acura doesn't make the 20" default for the MDX. Especially for the SH-AWD option. Can anyone share their experiences if you have done this?

I have a 2015 SH-AWD Tech package and thinking about power-coating the wheels in gloss black that's if i keep the 19" that came stock on the truck. If i were to go to a 20" i would get the Berlina wheels in black that comes on the later models. Your thoughts? Thanks!

Have 20s, wish I had 19s. The smaller wheel employing the same overall diameter tire means a taller sidewall, and a softer ride. The 20 inch wheels make for a harsher ride. The MDX is not a sports car by any stretch. It never will handle like a NSX, so why try? I bought it to get a softer ride. Big mistake.

All depends on the buyer, if wanted a soft ride i would purchased the RX Fsport but purchased the MDX Hybrid for its driving dynamics. The OEM 20's are not bad at all, 21s how ever would be a game changer for ride comfort.

My high center of gravity 19 MDX Hybrid in Sport mode with electronic dampers handles noticeably better and more securely in the curves than my 18 RLX Hybrid with same struts/shocks like the base/tech MDXs.

You have to double check on the Berlina rims because I don't know if they have them in the 5-114 bolt pattern. The +17 MDXs switched to 5-120 bolt pattern.

Don't assume that going to a taller sidewall will soften the ride. I run 17" snows in the winter, and have had them on my '17 MDX Tech and my current '19 MDX Advance (both SH-AWD), and I noticed very little difference when swapping between winter and summer in terms of harshness of the ride. Actually, I was amazed just how harsher the winter setup is on my '19 Advance as compared to the summer tires. I'd expected the complete opposite....

YMMV. andy

What summer tires are you using ?

Even with the same sidewall thickness, high-performance summer tires will give a much rougher ride quality than the same-sized touring summer tires; and likewise for winter tires too.

For summer tires I'm running the OEM Michelin Primacy that comes on the Advance, and for winter i run Nokian Nordman 5, standard speed rating. Nothing special. I have noticed profile/speed rating differences in tires on other vehicles, but on the MDX it's a lot more consistent across the tire sizes. Just my observation.
