Young Professional look with smooth driving help.

Hey guys I have a black 09 TSX and I need help getting rims/tires for my car. I'm going for the black with a chrome lip look but any suggestions are welcome.

I want to mention that:
- Although I want to I'm NOT going for the murdered look (chrome trim is staying)

- NOT going to lower the car. Reason is because I came from lowered sports cars (300zx, integra, EVO) and I know that lowered is not as comfortable and smooth. Having a luxury I want to keep the ride smooth and comfortable as possible.

- Usually I drive more highway, but I do sometimes go on rocky roads and city.

So any suggestions? I'm really confused on the whole "offsets" and such. What's the biggest rim I could get without making the car less smooth or comfortable to drive? I understand the thinner the tires the less comfortable. Also any extra precautions when looking for tires/rims since our cars have VSA system and Tire pressure monitor? Should I also look into the weight of the car?

In advance I want to say thanks for all the help and any opinions and suggestions is greatly appreciated. Sorry for many questions.

If your not going to lower the car, I suggest getting some nice wheels that have an OEM look to them...perhaps the 19" RDX accessory wheel or G35 rims look nice too

+1, if your not lowering the car, i dont think putting 19's would make it look better since you'd be riding in a monster truck. maybe stick with 17's or 18's? but if you must, oem 19's like ttk suggested is a good route

well stock our rims are 17" right? I'm thinking 18" black with chrome lip. But damn tires and rims are pricier than I thought. What exactly does it mean when you guys say 40 or 45 or 35 tires? is the the height of the tire/thickness? What's the stock on a tsx? 55? so going for thinner tires would be less smoother while driving the car right?

stocks are 17". the 40 45 and 35 is the tire size sidewall height. higher the number, the taller the sidewall. lower the number lower the sidewall. anything under 50 is considered "low-profile".

stock tsx tires are 225/50/17

going for thinner tires doesn't mean it will be less smoother, just more road noise. which is subjective. that's why there is different prices for tires.

If your not going to lower your car and getting rims, it really makes it look like a 4x4

for example. my car before and after springs.

Before

After

You could get H-techs or Eibachs which have a mild drop

Thanks a lot kowloon that gave me a big insight. Its just I came from lowerd 300zx and EVO. And ride wasn't too comfortable and if there's crap on the freeway and speedbumps were annoying. Always worried about the bumper and I feel like I'm done with lowered. Maybe keep to 17 or 18 and keep tires at 50? Or I'm thinking of dropping the back.

I agree with Ed, if you're not lowering then stick to 17's or just +1 to 18's. Anything more and you'll look funny.

If you want to lower it and keep the comfortable ride then get Eibach Prokits. They honestly just stiffen up the ride a bit...pretty close to stock.

You mentioned the weight of the vehicle and tires...the only thing you might want to look out for is keeping the speed rating of the tire you go with higher or equal to what is already on there.

No problems at all for the 1.5+ years I've had them.

I understand. I have S-techs and they are kinda rough and that I do have to be careful when going over speed bumps or going up/down inclines. But then again there are others who are lower. Which I want hehe. You can do like 17 with 225/45/17, since it does make it look better (Lexus IS example on their 17s have 45 if I remember correctly.)

or even 235/45/17.

or upgrade to 18" with even the OEM 18" wheels and keep it at 45. Its a good balance.

On my old tires with my rims I had 225/45/18 and they were fine. average tires but it gives the car a different look compared to 225/50/17.

Now I have 235/40/18 and there is no noticeable difference.

My TSX is my first lowered car. I still remember the day I had my wheels and springs installed (19s and Eibach springs). When I got my car back from the mechanic, I was very surprised to find that the car felt exactly the same as before the installation.

Over time, I have realized that it is different (bumpier, for sure) when going over bumps or potholes, but I've always been a good pothole-avoider so it's not too bad. Plus, I'm on a 35 series tire. I think if I had 40 or even 45 series, the potholes would be less harsh.

As for Young Professional look, as someone who's been there, my opinion is that black with chrome lip does not fit that profile. I actually think that the OEM 17s fit the bill nicely. I also like 5 spoke "star" wheels like the ones that 09TSXTech have. IMHO, those would fit Young Professional more.

Good luck with your research!

Thanks a lot kowloon i'll keep that suggestion in mind. And as far as OEM I honestly hate the OEM rim. It's too plain in my opinion. Well maybe I'm starting to lean towards the younger sporty look now -_- geez I don't know what I want. First luxury car.

So the weight of the rm won't affect the odometer, speed gauge and VSA and such?

everyone just helps everyone..no reps or anything like that.
The thing that affects the speedometer and stuff is the tire size!!!

When moving from a 17" wheel to a 19" wheel, 245/35/19 is the closest to our stock diameter. The 35 means the thickness of the tire is 35% of 245mm.
