i still have maybe 25-30% tread left on my fronts, and the wet traction is absolutely horrendous on the stock rubber. it's as if i'm driving on vegetable oil on even moderate, gentle curves at moderate speeds. even going straight on I-95 with no standing water (but wet/light rain falling), the car gets darty and unstable.
what rubber are you guys running with? i'm thinking of going with Bridgestone RE760 Sports, or possibly those all season Continental Extreme Contacts. thoughts?

If the RE760 is anything like the RE960AS, then it should be great. I loved those tires in the wet or the dry. Very confident handling, and I think they were quieter than stock as well.

I had really horribly worn stock tires and yeah, had the same problem. Some cousins from Seattle came down to visit, and apparently they think that hydroplaning is "fun". So, on a rainy day, we decided to drive down I-10. I let him drive. I have never seen the VSA and Traction Control lights go off so many times. I was also thinking "Damn these tires gotta go".
Flash forward to...today, about 1 hour ago. I just got new Continental ExtremeContact DWS installed, and after my 80 mile commute tomorrow, I'll be sure to tell you how they are, and then again after they've broken in a while

Years ago we used to say that a tire was worn at 2/32nds of an inch. Today, the standard is 4/32nds if the car will ever be exposed to any water.
Most all season tires come new from the factory with anywhere between 9/32nds and 10/32nds of tread.
