Test fitting spacers

I ordered a set of 15mm spaces for the rear and 5mm for the front. The 15's came in before the 5's, so I did a little test fit yesterday. Cannot keep them on though as I have not had the extended lugs installed yet.

Here are some pics for now at least.....

Nice! Which extended lugs you going with? I'm looking at Project KICS or h&r spacers right now myself.

Well this sucks. I logged on to check the status of the front spacers that were shipped and this is what I saw:

Yreka, CA, United States 01/25/2012 8:00 A.M. Train derailment.
Baldwin Park, CA, United States 01/23/2012 8:37 P.M. Departure Scan

United States 01/23/2012 8:27 P.M. Order Processed: Ready for UPS

i've read some stories of wheels falling off with the ichibas. apparently the studs break off. who knows maybe just installation problem?

I like the quality of Project KICS stuff but they're not hubcentric without the ring adapter....h&r looks pretty good too but they're not pressed on studs like the ichibas and project kics...

I don't know about the other adapters/spacers, but with something small like 15-20mm, you're not going to be able to run adapters. There's just not enough space to run the adapters over the current studs and secure them with the flat studs. I ran into the same issue when I thought I was getting them for my 15mm spacers. The most secure way is to replace the stock lugs with longer ones and use a hub centric ring. That's what I'm doing with the H&R's. I slipped the spacer on which is hub centric and it was on there so tight, I had to pry it off.

I remember kowloonsniperhk used ichiba spacers on his wheels. He said he had to take them off because they started clicking. Might want to ask him about that before going with ichiba v2.

You can do a version 2 from a 15MM on. Less than that you'll need a version 1 (like the one pictured). Strange that H&R doesn't include the extended studs for you. My eibach kit had them...

I had a DIY on installing the studs yourself...pretty easy if you have the tools. This is for a 3G but I bet it's a similar design.

J.

PS, I'm running extended studs and 10MM spacers up front and version 1 and version 2 20MM spacers (ichiba on the back) with no issues.

My h&r's did come with the extended studs. At least with the 15mm's. I'll be running 5mm up front and using the stock lugs. My wife works at The dealership so I get employee pricing on labor. It's a lot cheaper so I don't mind paying the mechanics to do it. If I was paying full price, I'd just do it myself.

H&R are with studs. If you want 20mm or more on one side then H&R offers a version with pressed studs in the spacer. Pressing studs in only 15mm spacers is to dangerous, the same is with studs if thy are 2omm longer then OEM.
I have a pair of spacers left from H&R, they are for sale, dont know which size.
Driving for 15years every car with H&R springs and spacers without any probs

Good to know...
and yes, cheap labor is great. I still prefer doing myself though.

J.

About the spacers...I agree, although the version II (pressed in stud) exist in 15MM, there's not enough "meat" on the spacer to feel safe about it.

My brother's IS also had the clicking noise from the ichiba v2. The spacers just got loose somehow and we just just retightened the one that had problems. Almost a year now and no more clicking.

5's allow you to use the oem studs, no?

Yeah, honestly, with the v2's I always install, then a week later I go back and retorque to spec to be sure.

Yes. I'm using the OEM lugs with the 5's, but H&R did send new lugs with them which I can use if I want.

I went with them as they are proven reliable and high quality. Nothing against Ichiba, but H&R has a long history....

Oh no...I don't blame you. I'd be fine with H&R, Ichiba, project kics, akata, or eibach. They are all reputable.

Are you sure the ones they included are not a little longer than OEM? The amount of threads left affects the strength alot.

No idea as I've not checked anything out on the car yet. I can eyeball them, but that's only an estimate from my perspective....

So here are the front 5mm spacers on the car now. Kind of hard to see a difference with the camera as it's just 5mm....

I could actually go with 10mm on the front, but that would be more labor and I'm not sure it's really worth it.....

Hmmm...well, the reason I ask is if they DID include the longer studs, it might be safer to use theirs.

It already looks a lot better...a 10 would PROBABLY be perfect but wait and see how flush the rear looks first. If it he rear looks more flush than the front then go for it, if not, keep it as is. Great RJ's on your car too btw.

I'm having the rears installed tomorrow. I'll get some more shots once they're done as long as the weather has cleared up.

ask about the extended threaded studs for the front...might be worth having them swapped out...

Also, you do have wheel locks, right?

Your car looks really clean with that CT grille. I think your fronts look really good with that 5mm. What kind of lens did you use for these photos, they look really sharp. Did you post process?

Thanks everyone for the comments. I think it's just about perfect. I could go a little wider, but would run the risk of rubbing at my current height. With my camber now, the tires tuck perfectly on hard bumps.
As for the camera, I shoot with a Canon 5d2 and this lens was a 24-70 2.8L. Some minor post processing was done.
