S-techs Installed

I bought these off eggmonster brand new. I had bought H-techs originally and had them laying in my house basically all summer. I ended up selling them. Springs were suppose to come in on Friday but with UPS delivery hours 7am-7pm, I missed them. So they left a notice saying that they will deliver on Monday from 2pm-5pm and guess what, they delivered them at 9am right before I was about to leave my apartment to go to class.

Anyways got them installed yesterday and I definitely love the drop. Gives the car a whole new look. Its basically about a 1/2 finger or 1 in the front and maybe 1/2 in the rear. The camber on the rear is pretty in. Might need to get a camber kit to prevent my tires from wearing too fast.

Driving Impressions:
Springs need to still settle, I probably give it a week but I took it out yesterday for some spirited driving and it definitely handles better. Definitely more responsive even when making normal turns. Took the car onto the on-ramps on 408 and I-4, went around the corners close to 55mph before I kinda backed off. I also have the Progress RSB which adds to the fun. Very minimal body roll around the corners.

Anyways here are some pictures I took. Enjoy

Looks like I might need a camber kit lol

I really like your wheels. Definitely looks better with the drop.

I understand your situation with the rear camber. Mine's super negative as well. Went online to look for a camber kit, and it's friggin' $400. Someone on here (HeavyDuty maybe?) mentioned that camber doesn't kill tires, toe does. So maybe just get an alignment and be done with it. Do you know what other problems can occur from overly negative camber?

Anyway, nice job!

Thanks for the comments! I definitely love it dropped. I do eventually want to get some coilovers in the near future. Camber is not that bad. I probably just have to get an alignment

i think heavy duty that camber doesn't kill the tire, toe does, did my research and there was an article on honda tuning talking about this. so i just need to get an alignment.

Here's the best post there ever was from Ken Nord (Nu Tech Suspension) on the SE-R list from...Geezus, probably over 10 years ago. He's one of those scary smart dudes that I wish I knew 10% of what he's forgotten.

http://www.se-r-list.org/archives/19.../msg01062.html

Here it is cut & pasted;

The main reason for the type of tire wear you see is because the Toe is incorrect. You can destroy a set of tires in no time if you don't set the toe correctly. Camber induced wear is so so so so insignificant relative to toe induced wear. If you set the toe properly and rotate the tire faithfully you can get significant life out of the tires. I have set up dozens of vehicleswith suspensions like the classic and 200sx. I have found that 1 to2degrees can be used in an daily driver without significantly affecting tire life. In fact I have had significantly lengthened the life of many tires by setting up the alignment to suit the drivers style.

Try the following experiment.
1. Get a roll of toilet paper. (any brand will suffice. preferably unused.)

2. Stick something into the center of the roll It needs to long enough to grab hold of on each side of the roll. This will bethe axle/hub. The roll must be able to rotate freely.

3.Draw a straight line about 4foot long on a section of concrete.Needs to be concrete or asphalt. Preferable in front of the house or other publicplace. This line simulates the direction the vehicle travels (thrust line).

4.Kneel.

5.Say "I'm not worthy, Ken is great" 3 times the loudest you can or until a crowd gathers. Remember to have the roll held highabove you.

6.Place the roll on the concrete so it will roll along the line ifpushed.

7.Grab both ends of item you inserted into the hole (the axle/hub).

8. Roll toilet paper along line. This represents a tire with zero toe.It moves smoothly and there is little wear to the paper roll.

9.Now lift one side of the axle up. get it as close to 45degrees asyou can. this simulates a high degree of camber.

10. Roll along line. look for wear. Should be fairly slight.

11.Remove camber from "tire". Turn the tire 45 degrees to simulate a turn. The axle should be 45 degrees relative to the straight line you drew inthe concrete. This stimulates an incorrect (rather exaggerated) toe situation.

12. while keeping the axle at a 45 degree angle to the thrust line. Push the tire along the thrust line while keeping the axle at a45 degree angle. Remember to keep the same pressure on the axle as youdid in the line 8 and 9. After going the distance look at tire. This isyour tire on incorrect toe settings. Not good.

13. If you still don't get it grab a beer and another roll and start over. Remember to emphasize step 5.

There are a lot of different things which can affect your alignment.Just because your vehicle is within "specs" doesn't mean it will track straight or have great tire wear. There are very very few mechanics who canreally do a good alignment. A good (a knowledgeable and Honest)technician will not give you that line of bull that the vehicle is within specs. It is only to coverhis/her/its shitty job. Period! A wrecked vehicle will play havoc with the alignment, but I don't believe that is your case.

If the car was wrecked between the time that it drove straight and when the alignment was done then he might have a case. Otherwise it is simple incompetence or mistake. There are many tricks to get the alignment right. It looks that he didn't even test drive it. good luck Hope it makes it through the filter the first try.

Yup, I agree with the Toe adjustment. I got my car aligned after lowered and the only area they could really correct was the toe... they said that made the biggest difference in tire wear. Definitely worth doing..

thanks heavyduty, if we can manage to put together a big Orlando meet, u can come. Heh my car is definitely not clean, just got it washed at a car wash and put some "wax-as-u dry" on it and some polish and sprayed some wet tire spray on it. there are so many swirl marks in my car when i took it to a car wash/wax place...never again. hopefully by winterbreak, i can have time to actually get the swirl marks out.

@kowloonsniperhk - Sorry to revive an old thread but i'd like to know your long term impression of the S-tech springs. Did they hold up? Still have them on? Any problems bottoming out or clearance issues in the front driving around?

Thanks, trying to make an informed purchase.. rather than (test and see).

Thanks,
Matt
