Proper winter tire minus sizing

Just wondering what the proper minus one sizing is for our vehicles and if anyone here has done this? I'm calculating the proper downsize from 255/50/17 is either 215/60/16 or 205/60/16 with the 215 giving a speedometer reading that's 1.2% too slow and the 205 giving a speedo that's 0.7% too fast.

Personally, I'd rather go with the narrower 205's for winter but the tire shop is recommending the 215's. Can anyone chime in on this?

I'm not sure, but there doesn't seem to be all that much difference between the 2 choices. I actually just stuck with OEM size for my 04's winter tires.

Either one of the 16" will work. What is the width of the winter rims, if it's under 7.5" go with 205 otherwise 215.

thanks for the responses.

I checked tire rack cause apparently the tire size calculators are only mathematical formulas that aren't all that accurate. Tire rack recommends 215 for our cars so that's what I'll be going with even though 205 is listed as an alternative.

Gotta bump an old thread guys. Winter's coming up.

Which one would you pick for a set of Toyo Observe G-02 plus:

205/60/16 (load rating 92) or
215/60/16 (load rating 95)?

OEM size is 225/50/17. Stock size for the base model euro-spec Accord is 205/60/16 so I'd rather go for that, plus it's about $50 cheaper for the set but would I gain anything by going for the 215's (other than getting a higher load rating)?

I checked out the Honda UK website. They offer three basic versions of Accord there.
CU1- 2.0L Petrol engine;
CU2- 2.4L Petrol engine and
CU3- 2.2L Diesel engine.

Of the three, only CU1 and CU3 comes in 16" rims. The CU1 uses 16 x 6.5" rims, 205/60/16 92V tyres; CU3- uses 16 x 6.5" rims with 215/60/16 95V tyres.

To answer your question, use 215/60/16 if you want to go with 16" rims on our CU2 model.
