H&R and TEIN are up

I'm thinking about springs, so far I've seen mostly Eibach on this forum, maybe one Progress.

H&R
http://hrsprings.com/scripts/appguid...CURA%20|%20TSX

TEIN
http://www.tein.com/price/acura.html

search for CU2

Question is, what should I go for. I'm not looking for my car to be slammed (I've got speedbumps / driveways /ramps at work and on the way home. Just want a nice drop and not a crazy harsh ride.

How have the springs been with the OEM shocks?

I know everyone would like me to shut up about springs, etc, but...in my experience with maybe a dozen H&R apps up through 3-4 years ago, they sag over time which changes your alignment settings, which in turn wear the tires prematurely.

The TEIN stuff is very very good product, the ones I've installed come adjusted *perfectly* out of the box.

looks like tein have done something similar to progress in terms of staggered lowering... more front than rear... -1.1/-0.7 to level out the car more and rather than letting it look like it's sitting lower in the rear

im looking on getting some springs on mine too. the only concern is im on a lease. what i was thinking is buy the a spec springs once its released and have the dealer install them to avoid warranty issues. or has anybody bought and installed aftermarket springs from dealers and didnt affect your warranty?

I had Tein H-tech springs on my old TSX and they were great. I will probably go with the S techs this time.

i'm personally going to coil overs as soon as they're released, springs were a temp fix to the big gap between my 19's and the fender wells

Yeah, for a while. The higher spring rates on the lowering springs will compress & rebound the stock dampers with more force than the stock springs. That will slightly decrease the life of the dampers, but you should still get 50-65k miles out of them before they start to fail.

hi. you have a personal experience on this? if this is so, i may just get the springs instead of the coilovers since i dont plan on buying out the car after the lease (3 yrs/36,000 miles total)

I got my Tein H springs on my 1G TSX at about 15K miles. My sister drives it and the car is at 60K and still is fine.

60K ??? My last car i had for 10 yrs and barely hit 66K.

I take it you don't mind the stiffer ride or scrapes to the bottom of the car? I'm thinking Tein H but waiting for more dealers to carry the product.

With the Tein H, its not that bad of a drop. The ride is a bit stiffer but not too bad. I occasionally scrape the bottom only if I am going too fast over a speed bump.

Well, they're not interested in being first to market, but their stuff is top shelf anyway you look at it. I understand it's frustrating, but worth it.

I wouldn't invest the money on coilovers if it's a lease and you don't plan on keeping it. As long as you don't get a super slam set of springs with really high spring rates, your stock struts will be good for a while.

If you do decide to go with the coilovers, they'd probably be worth 50% of the original purchase price to sell when used. That way you can keep the strut assembly in your garage and swap them out as a whole real quickly.

Is it true that cte springs is better than tein-- as per dealer? Also, to those who leased, did you buy and install the springs by the dealer for warranty purposes or did u had other shop install them? Thanks

I don't believe so. Tein is a reputable company like CTE.

TEIN certainly is well respected product.

CTE was called Comptech for many years and the original purpose of their offerings was basically to have in-house performance/tuning/accessories available through the dealer network. Later they begrudgingly entered the aftermarket because the dealers as a whole weren't really taking advantage of it. Their quality is top-notch, whether you're looking for a strut brace for your Civic or a supercharger package for your NSX.

That would explain why the dealer prefers CTE, they can sell it, install it, make money and have excellent representation if there's an issue. Other aftermarket product wouldn't be received as well by a dealer.

You won't have warranty issues unless the part directly causes an issue. By law, they have to prove that an issue you're having was related to the aftermarket part. For example, if you install aftermarket springs and your radio dies, you can have it fixed under warranty. If, on the other hand, your aftermarket springs caused your car to be so low that the underbody panel or perhaps the catalytic converter was hit and destroyed by something you tried to drive over, you won't be able to warranty those items.

Back when cte was comptech, some dealers actually sold their stuff in their showroom. You could have it installed and warrantied as if it were stock.

Do it yourself for free then. I did mine, it's not too difficult, just have a helping hand.

hey guys.. i know this has been mentioned before but I cant seem to find a solid answer. I still have 3 years left on my lease and would like to get a set of springs without having to drive with blown shocks. Anyone know which one would be best for my situation? also, the road up to my house is pretty bumpy for about 45 seconds. Is that a huge deal? any advice will be appreciated

If u want to go with springs..unless u drive in a plain street every single day for 3 years. I dont relaly think ur shocks will hold up being lowered.

Ur shocks will be holding more body mass that they are not set at. hence wear and tear wil increase.

This is just my .2 cents opinion.

I would just roll with it.

To tell you the truth, every car I've ever leased (only 2) they've never even driven it when I returned it. They just glanced it over on the outside and inside, started it, and that's it. Worst case, they make you replace the struts, which if they were blown, you'd have to do anyway. But I doubt they even notice.

Ok thanks all for the advice so far. Darren you pretty much answered the question I was most worried about...which is whether or not the dealer would care about the condition of the suspension. And kowloon you make a good point with the h-techs. But some people were mentioning spring rates and stuff (which I really don't understand) so If I could go for a bigger drop and still be pretty okay in terms of my ride quality that would be sweet. Also, how much would it cost to replace my struts..cause even though this may sound stupid, I could ride on some springs..then replace the struts or shocks when they give out, then keep riding until I have to return my lease. (Money is a big issue for me so splitting up my costs is always good.)

If you had to replace them before turning it back into the dealer, you could swap the stock springs back in with some cheapy auto store struts.
