2012 tsx, springs & wheel questions...

Ok, I have an 05 TL lowered with tein tech s springs & koni shocks. ~1.5" drop. Also have 19" rims & tires. 225/35 r19

So looking to mod the wife tsx, but want to keep it a tad more driveable (less worry about bumps and whatnot.

If i go 19's and 1.5" drop... will ride still be a bit better than my TL due to 7 yrs improved suspension?
The tire for a 19 should be 225/40 R19, which will have like 1/2" more sidewall than mine and a tad softer ride....

Or better to go like 19's & 1" drop

Or 18's and 1" drop.

Also which springs would be suggested. Ideally I'd like to go like 1.5" and 19's but this is her daily driver.

Also what is stock back space & rim width.

Thanks,

you already know that Acura's display stiff suspension, since you have an 05 TL.

and the v6 TSX suspension is IDENTICAL to your 05 TL's.

you didnt clarify if your wife had the v6 or 4, i'm assuming its the 4.

basically, you can apply your same knowledge from your TL to the TSX.

So, if you want her to be comfortable, OBVIOUSLY obviously dont go with the largest diameter rim with the lowest drop.

this sounds more like a personal debate between you and her and not between us.
Good luck on which ever route you choose.

Is your wife capable of driving lowered vehicles? i.e., would she be capable of avoiding pot holes, dips, speed bumps, curbs, etc. all the time? One example... is she the type that only puts the car into Park after her front tires hit the curb when parking front in? Answer these (or get her to answer these) questions and figure out whether a lowered vehicle is right for her or not. If she's more than willing/capable of driving a lowered vehicle, keep reading.

From my experience, and I unfortunately don't have much (so take this with a grain of salt), the introductory level TEINs (Basics/Street Basis) ride on the softer side compared to other coilover setups (even the TEIN Super Streets (or whatever they're called now) set to stiffest are still relatively soft). If that's what you're looking for, i.e., something close to OEM feel in terms of bumpiness, then TEINs might be for you. Mind you, the introductory level TEINs won't let you slam your car. But they are definitely more than sufficient at providing the moderate drop you seek.

I've never owned springs, but from what I've heard, springs on stock struts will be a rough ride, period. I have no experience with Konis, but I've heard nothing but great things. But I'm not sure if these great things necessarily translate into great ride comfort.

i have the H&R sport springs on my 10' tsx...its a 4 cyl....and they advertise a 1.3-1.5 inch drop. i am also running 18x8.5 wheels with a 245/40 tire...and it still rides like a luxury car. it it a tad stiffer than the oem setup but i like it. ill see if i can't post some pics of mine today so you can see what im talking about....also, with the H&R springs i still have a two finger gap on front and back. but you can tell it's lowered. and for less than $300, you can't go wrong with H&R i would reccommend them.

i also might add that my fenders are NOT rolled....and i have yet to scrape anything....so that should clarify things as well. the car does handle a lot better in turn with the wider tires and drop too

Can't go wrong with H&R quality. That sounds like the setup for OP, if anything.

Yeah she will be ok driving a lowered car. She is a car chik thru and thru and will be fine given its not extreme. Thanks for your input. I will look into coil overs, just not sure worth the extra dough for a street only car car. She maybe fine with the extra cost as she plans to keep the car for a good 5+ yrs! Looks like street basis is only $638!

also at 1.5" drop can the factory setup accommodate for camber/caster etc, for alignment?

i agree XTCNRICE.....and to answer the OP's question about camber issues.....none so far....i can tell a very slight negativity in my rear camber with the H&R springs....but not enough to see the tires that have been on there for two months daily driven, to show any signs of pre-mature wear. in my opinion, go with the H&R's if you wanna go lower one day, you are only out like what, $260 bucks? i bought my springs from heeltoeauto.com....if you go with coils and you go lower than 2" you will prob have camber issues....and to straighten out the rear your gonna be looking at like 4-600 bucks for a good set of adjustable links for the back....gets waaay expensive, ive seen....at least for the good one's....then the cost of alignment....so for less than 300 bucks i got the height i wanted, the driveability i wanted and the performance i wanted.

At a 1.5" drop, camber isn't going to be much of an issue with regards to increased tire wear. I suspect your rears will be around -2.5 degrees at the most, and this shouldn't be too bad on your tires.

The main issue with altering your suspension/wheel setup is your altered toe though. Misaligned toe will eat your tires up quicker than increased negative camber will (at ~ -2.5 degrees of camber anyway). Once you have your springs/coilovers in and your new wheels/tires on (if you decide to change them up), drive for a little while (maybe 250 miles) to let the springs break in and settle, then get an alignment to fix your toe back to OEM specs.

o and i have the Type S lip and i guess the "chin lip" your reffering to is just garage door weather stripping from Lowe's lmao.... $13 bucks....i would rather hear that rubber scrape before my bumper...and to me....it looks good and easily removable.

car has 22k miles. worth the cost to replace shocks/struts.
Koni's appear like $750 for all 4.

Seems like a lot, considering I have low miles. Will tey help ride much?
Richy, you still have stock shocks?

one lat quest:

H&R 1.3 drop over the Tein S-tech 1.5" drop.

height is negligible here to me. But H&R ride better for a tsx?

Personally I am running eibach pro kits in the front only. It gives the car a more raked look which I like. I'm rolling on 18x8 Accord Coupe wheels w/ 235/45s. Handling is better and stiffer than stock, and the only ride compromise is on local roads. On the highway the car still rides as smooth as new. If you'd like some pics let me know and I'll upload a few for ya.

We carry the H&R Sport springs as well. As you said they would only lower the 4cyl TSX about 1.3 inches. Do they "ride better" is pretty subjective. It seems like you want something a little more stock like than sporty. If this is the case, these are definitely your best bet.

We have them listed on our website. PM me and I'll get you the best price I can. The benefit of ordering from us is quick ship times, you're guaranteed to get the right parts, and great customer service.

richy...

did you ever get an alignment or atleast a check after spring instal? curios if you did, and how bad camber or toe was off?

Plan to install h&r springs this weekend or next week or so....

You should be getting an alignment after each suspension-related change you do, in my opinion. Whether it's a slight drop or a modest drop, you're going to affect the toe/camber. Camber won't be a big deal with such a small drop (and you can't change it on our cars anyways unless you have an aftermarket camber kit), but your toe will be off.

After you install the springs, drive your car for like a couple weeks to let the springs settle, then get an alignment. If you want minimal tire wear, zero out the toe.

yeah i planned to get the alignment, but as most suggest to drive for a few weeks to let settle, just didn't want to chew up tires if was way off.

Sounds like should be fine for the few weeks of driving then till alignement
