what's this plastic?

Hi, I just bought my car like two weeks ago and I notice this on the driver's door panel. It's the plastic coming out of the door panel, should I pull it off or not? I'm just scared of doing it so before I do I need your help. Here is the pic:

have you ever bought any type of electronics?
I'm sure this is the same and is most likely for protection.

Once you take off the door panel you'll see this plastic is covering most everything electrical inside.

Now here's the tricky part, doing surgery on your brand new ride.
you're gonna have to cut that plastic piece off. make it flush so that you cant see any more plastic coming out.

Hey thanks Justin. I thought the same thing like you've said. I've seen the door panels open and they have the plastic cover inside before you access any wiring and stuff. I'll have to cut it precisely and have to be careful not to scratch the door panel.

That's the lazy tech at the dealership that didn't take their time to PDI the car before delivery.

Exactly. If you take a look at the dealer's lot of non-PDI'd cars, you will see they are wrappednin plastic etc, depending on the part. During PDI, the dealer is supposed to remove this.

All brand new cars from the actual factory has that plastic as protection for your door panels. Don't worry just pull those out or cut it with a cutter.

PDI- Pre-Delivery Inspection.

Typically when a dealer received a vehicle from the manufacturer, it's covered in protective coating and other coverings. They will be removed during PDI and then the technician goes through a checklist (fluid levels, bulbs, lugnuts, among other items) before it's ready to deliver to a customer.

check your owner manuals. You should have a booklet that has the PDI check-list which should have been used when preping your new car.

P.S. just pull hard and it'll come out... it's just a piece of plastic after all, what's there to worry about when pulling it? Your door won't fall off...

Cut it with scissors, and then take a thin plastic putty knife and tuck the rest back under the panel out of sight.
