Ran over a huge rock. Steel gas line is leaking, etc

As I was going on a freeway on ramp @ 40mph, there was a pick up truck in front of me and all of a sudden I drive over this huge ass rock. It's the most painful sound I've ever heard.

I took the car to a mechanic and he said the gas line is leaking underneath and there's major sub frame damage. FML!

He said it'll cost about $1500-2000 and said to call my insurance company.

I'm so lucky my son wasn't in the car because it would've caught on fire or probably exploded.

your son's presence would've ignited the leaking fuel?

glad you're ok though, and it sucks that you have so much damage.

its weird just seeing the steel fuel lines exposed like that without a protective shield. but then again i didnt know what it looked like before the damages. maybe the subframe was shielding it.

it didnt come from the pick up truck that was in front me otherwise i wouldve seen it rolling towards me and it wouldve hit my front bumper or hood

i think the rock fell off from another truck and it just sat there.

got a call from my insurance and theyre getting an adjuster out there.

btw i rented a 2010 camaro. man this car looks bad ass but interior sucks balls

i didnt pull over the side because nothing was showing on my gauges except for the TPMS. i just went to the office, worked for 5 hours and then drove to the shop.

thanks. i dont have any pics of the damage.

insurance called and theyre covering it. theyre saying im at fault since its a single car accident. they said to talk to my agent to see if this will affect my insurance premium going up.

they said even if i hit a furniture, manhole, pothole, tires, i would be at fault.

sorry to hear about your baby =(

insurance wise i guess its being considered a collision. comprehensive covers stuff like acts of god(tree falling on it) right? i would thing that maybe theres a loophole that the rock is a road hazard like a tree limb. then again, i don't know much about insurance policies(my parents deal with that) i just know what i read about the tire warranty haha

well i guess it depends on how much it costs to repair. if your premium is $500 and the repair cost is like $300, then get it straight from the city. if its more than $500, like my situation will be about $2-3k, then i go insurance. i dont know if the city will reimburse you $2-3k plus rental costs if you avoid the insurance route

Man that sucks, I've always thought about something hitting the exposed gas lines under our cars. I've always said to myself this car is not going for rock climbing so it doesn't really matter until... This!

I'm glad it didn't catch fire with or without your baby. That would have been more trouble.

Insuranced TOTALLED my car!!!!!!!!!!!

fck. what happens next? ive never dealt with something thats been totalled. the car is a 3 year lease and ive only been into it 1.5 years. im taking all my after market parts off. im losing out on the window tint, hood, and headlights.

since they will total it, can i keep the hood and headlights?

time to get a '10 TSX manual. maybe tech?

So sorry to hear that defcon.

There must be some other damages, a 2-3K fuel line and frame damage won't normally totalled a vehicle like the TSX. There must be some other big ticket item damaged underneath, ask for the report.

Hopefully you are all squared with Acura Finance with regard to the lease and value (insurance payout).

You may be able to get a great deal on a 2010 TSX 6MT Tech model, although it's already March 2011, so it may be slim pickings out there.

frame damage is a big deal... depending on the damage, it could be well over 10k to repair. so i'm not surprised it was totaled. i would try my hardest to get the hood and headlight off the car. maybe even replace them with junkyard parts if you can find them.

do you have gap insurance? also insurance pays for mods under 500 i think. I just changed to mercury and that whats stated in the policy. lol As for your hood and headlights I dont think you can keep it but you can try and ask. My mom's recent ES and old C-class got totaled, but they didnt let me keep the Merc's front badge . I guess u can say ur hood and headlights were stolen Man your losing out on the mods man I guess u can remove ur lips, and tips lol but i feel for you man

real quick, what should i expect to pay for a 2010 TSX base AT and a 2010 TSX base V6?

my 09 TSX base AT was $29k at the time.

a local dealer only has a 2010 TSX V6 for $34k sticker price

ill be doing some searching in the meantime.
