Overheating Fog Lights

Hello everyone,

Question about my 2009 Acura TSX:

So my friend tried installing yellow film on my fog lamps. He put two layers on. However, the intensity of the heat melted the film right off! It started bubbling like crazy in the center of both lenses and we decided to just remove them. The lens gets so hot that you can literally cook an egg on them....

Here's the kicker.... He owns a 2009 Acura TL 3.7L, he installed the very same film on his fogs, and even his front turn signals, and his lights do not heat up not even a fraction that mine do!!

I noticed that his fog light seems to be a little deeper inside the assembly than mine... Maybe that is the issue, since both cars use the same watt/bulb size.

Any insight would be of help.

Thanks in advance!

I have one layer of lamin-x on my fogs and haven't had any issue. I rarely turn my fogs on but when I do, it's usually foggy or rainy.

2011+ dont have the ring. I have yellow vinyl on mine and they don't bubble. I don't have the oem bulbs though.

im not sure what its for but it holds a ton of heat. hence with 2 layers the OP is melting it off.

11+ have no ring.

i would remove the lens.......a few quick minutes with a heat gun or oven...remove that metal ring. silicone it all back together and move on.

and the 11+ guys....we have a LED FOG housing solution from TRS/
see the GG thread/
cheaper than OEM for the pair too.

You're right, my dad has an '11 TSX and it doesn't have the ring... Did a quick test and in comparison, very cool compared to my '09... However, I was told not using my fog lights for a week when film is installed will cure it enough to resist the heat. So before considering to remove the ring, I will try that, along with a lower watt bulb to test. I'd rather not mess with the housing just yet. Mind you, the TL '09 has the ring as well.. It seems that both models after 2011 removed that ring so there must be a reason for it.....

Well I could do that, however considering that the newer ones don't heat up and don't have the ring tells me that has something to do with it. For sure I'll have to test it out to be sure

I have a 10 with the rings...from the back I pushed the rings up and out of the way so LED bulbs would fit in there. I then applied XPEL headlight film and have had zero issues in over a year and my fogs are on as soon as the car starts.

op never changed the bulb from stock. i would expect your LED to be cooler than an halogen bulb.
