Oil Diagnostic Issue

Hey guys,

that past few weeks, if i cut the steering wheel all the way, come to a quick stop, or even accelerate quickly from a stopped position, my oil light goes off, saying i have low oil... but it quickly goes away... the ECU tells me i have 50% left....

now i have yet to check the actual oil with the dipstick... but i just wanted to know if anyone has experienced this... if its normal...problem with the sensor maybe... or you think my oil is really low, and need to get it checked.

The ECU tells you how much oil life you have left. It says nothing about the quantity of oil.

The oil pressure light - OTOH - shows a loss of oil pressure which relates directly to oil quantity.

You need to check your oil level and add oil as appropriate. Most manufacturers do not consider burning a quart every 1000 miles excessive, so a quart between oil changes shouldn't (by itself) be a concern.

Do you have an auto or manual?

there's a thread here about the sensor.
when you make quick turns, the oil sloshes around and the sensor thinks its low on oil, when its not.

to be sure; just double check your oil level.
its quick. and easy. and you'll know in less than 5 mins if you have low oil.

yea i had that, it usually means that you are somewhere close to the min line oil wise, unless it comes on when your not taking a hard turn, your fine. i added some into mine a while ago when it did that cause the light pissed me off while drifting hardcore 2 fast 2 furious 6 runway style

put in a quart... gotta go buy a filter now, and change the oil, (i like Purolator One - PL14610) this weekend.

I just dont understand why i would burn so much... couldnt be the mods right? haha

It's possible that your mods are helping the problem along. I had the same issue on my manual SE. I had to get my piston rings replaced and that seemed to fix the problem.

Here are our experiences

It is quite possible that your mods are affecting your oil consumption. The car is designed for a certain air/fuel mixture and backpressure - you've altered both so you may well get increased oil loss.

You may want to buy a Honda filter. They aren't more expensive and have more consistent quality.

i like the honda filter, i pick them up from the dealer for 6 bucks a pop, if you buy a few they usually just give it to you free. and they give you a free crushable washer usually. fun fact: every single current acura and honda model uses the same exact oil filter. it makes it easier to just stock 1 =P

put in lucas oil stabilizer when you change your oil it helps lessen or prevent oil from burning. i swear by the stuff. 250-500 ml should do the trick.

Good rule of thumb is to check yer oil every fill up. While you fill up, grab one of those blue towels by the gas pump, pop the hood and check the oil. Our engines burn a little oil around 1/4 to 3/4 of a quart between oil changes. My S2000 did the same, it's a inherent "feature" of high rpm engines.

burning a quart every 1000 miles IS excessive unless you're driving a subaru
