"Noise" coming from rear left bumper area
"Noise" coming from rear left bumper area
Didn't know where to post this thread, so I figured "Problems & Fixes."
I just noticed a weird sound and wasn't sure if this was normal or not. Here's what I did:
1. Make sure the car is air-tight. Close all windows, sunroof.
2. Sit down in rear left passenger seat.
3. Open and close the door.
You will hear a sound that seems to be coming from behind you. I don't know how to describe. If the car is not airtight, for example leaving a window open, there won't be a noise.
I also tried the same thing as above, but from the OUTSIDE. I opened and closed the rear left passenger door and I get the same noise, but it sounds like it's coming from the rear left bumper area. NO sound if the car is not air-tight.
I'm wondering if it has anything to do with making the car air-tight and it has some kind of air-tight valve that pushes the air out from the inside cabin to the outside to balance the pressure inside when you "seal" the car by closing the door. Or something like that.. I don't even know if what I just said is really true, just guessing.
Anyone else get that? I do want to note that I was rear ended a few months ago, but the guy was going only like 2 mph and did very small scratches.

Its suppose to happen, its a one way valve to allow you to open and close the door without pressure build up. It allows air to escape but prevents water from getting in. I know on my fiance's eclipse and other cars, when you pull on the door handle, the window automatically lowers about 1/4 inch for the same reason.
