multi information display is blank by default

Hi everyone. When I drive, I like to see either the range or the instant MPG. Every time I start the car, the display is blank and I have to use the steering wheel control to make it display the info, even though I had the display set to what I wanted before turning the car off. Is this supposed to function this way? I don't see anything in the settings menu about the multi information display. Help!

It is irritating it doesn't remember your last display selection. I find the information in the MID of varying usefulness:
  • Instant MPG - who cares? How does this help my driving or my understanding vehicle status?
  • Tire Pressure - helpful. But I bet there are many drivers who don't realize pressing the SEL button will show the air pressure of each tire
  • Average MPG - Overly optimistic. And if I cared, I would drive a hybrid
  • Average Speed - Why is this important? And is it averaged by distance or time? I can never remember
  • Fuel Range - I like it, especially knowing there's about a gallon of fuel remaining even though it shows 0 miles

What I would really like:
  • Digital MPH display. Useful when setting cruise control and driving through school zones
  • Battery Volts
  • Oil Pressure/Oil Temp
  • Gear Select display for MT, maybe even with upshift economy light - helpful when teaching someone to drive stick shift
  • Compass
  • Rev Limit warning light and chime

Most of the stuff you want either comes in American cars or super sport cars.

My 2013 VW Golf had a digital speedo as an option on the MDI, as well as a compass. Not a GTI, Golf R, but your regular old 2.5 liter model. Neither American nor a supercar.

Let me know if you ever come across a Acura with that features.

Curious. So the MT does not display what gear I am currently in? Is that feature only in A/T? 2013 ILX Premium

Huh. You mean it starts up in the main display---which I think is blank, aside from the lower display, which shows odometer and outside temperture---every time?

My 2013 ILX retains my instant fuel economy display at startup without any toggling. It doesn't do that for other MID models---even newer than my 2013?

Nice! I like your proposed additional MID settings; all very useful. What about these settings as well:
  • actual coolant temperature
  • actual remaining fuel volume in gal. or L
  • volume air intake, like a measure of power generated at momoment of ignition (this might also indicate whether VCT or iVTEC are engaged)
  • downward pressure of vehicle on pavement for like aerodynamic readings
  • angle/degree of wheel turn, like a simple wheel/axel/sway/roll bar diagram showing the tires moving with the wheel
  • G force readings
It might be interesting to see them all displayed at once and have the readings going all the time. I guess I should have bought a F-22!
I like having the fuel economy display up all the time because I generally do like the challenge of finding the right driving behavior for optimizing MPG. I have trip A set to reset on vehicle ignition each time and trip B to reset at refuel.
