I can get 450 miles easy (~16 gallons) on my V6. I do mixed city and highway driving. I'm not weaving in and out of traffic but I do let the horses free on the regular.

i dont doubt ur driving. especially with traction control on. is it slightly uphill on average? maybe there is like hardcore wind going against u? but even with all that.....26 is still kind of low. could b car related.... maybe tires are low on air? i had a similar problem with an old cadillac and it turned out to be that one of the brake calipers was stuck on brake but not enough to notice.

Looks like we need to compare apples to apples fellas.
Correct. In addition, we need a reality check.

Everybody wants to brag about how fast their car is, how well it handles and how much gas mileage it gets. Each time we brag about it, it gets faster and uses less gas.

The way you drive is different from the way I drive. Your commute is different, at a different time of day and with different traffic. City driving in Messina NY if a far cry from city driving in NYC, DC or Los Angeles. At the wrong time of day, it can take me a half hour to go a few miles.

So, how do you determine if it is your driving style or your car that is causing low gas mileage? Pretty simple. Gas up right before a longish drive (at least an hour) on a highway with little traffic. Set your cruise for the speed limit (not over 65 though.) At the end of the drive gas up again and manually calculate your mileage. If your calculated mileage is close to the numbers cited above then your car is fine.

You can then re-do the same test in traffic and using your driving style. See the difference?

For me the biggest factor in mileage is the city/hwy balance. When I do 70-30 city/hwy and I'm getting 22mph. at 20-80 I'm up to 30mph. I use 93 gas and have a light foot.

Last reading, I had 420 on the trip odo and comp said I had 32 more miles.
I do mostly highway driving.
When I filled it up the other day, the comp saidi had 507 miles to go.
What figures that? Driving habits? The first week I had it, it said something like 400 then it said 320.

My gas light just came on and I'm at 450 miles. '09 6 speed manual. Mostly hwy driving. The computer says 29mpg avg but I think it's a little high. I drive about 75mph on the tollways and don't hesitate to punch it when I feel like it.

Imo, the 6th gear should be geared lower. It gets up to 39mpg (40 on old tires) at 55mph. But it goes way lower at 75mph. While driving a loaner I noticed the rpm's were much lower while driving around.

How accurate is the trip computer usually on the later TSXs? I ask because my 2006 was always about ~2 mpg optimistic. My TL was better; about 0.5 to 1.5 mpg optimistic.

I just refilled my 2013 TSX and calculated the mileage. The computer settled at 26.4 mpg, and the calculated mileage was 26.398. That's uncanny, and I hope it isn't just luck or a fluke.

Aside from reviving an old thread, I'm amazed at people asking how many miles to the tank instead of the standard MPG or liters/100km.

OUr cars have a 18.5 gallon tank. At 27mpg you're getting 500 miles from a tank. If you get less then you're getting a lower mpg.

Short trips and stop and go traffic will reduce gas mileage. Longer highway cruises at a steady speed increase mpg.

The next question somebody is going to ask is "how many cans of Red Bull to a tank of gas?"

lets play a more fun game, whats the most you've ever put into the gas tank, aka, HOW LOW COULD YOU GO.

i filled up 18.460 Gallons, meaning i had about 0.04 gallons left. at 25 miles to the gallon(for calculations sake), that puts me at about 1 mile of gas worth left in the tank

If you could fill it yourself you could have put gone for the full amount.

i actually do pump my own, even in jersey at most stations, but i don't like topping it off after hearing what happens when you put it to high and the gas hits the evaporator or whatever in the top of the tank and then you gotta pay insane amounts to replace it. i pump it till it clicks, then occasionally just to get to a good number if im closer enough, i like rounded numbers on my bill =P

You could have pumped an extra gallon in there. The 18.5 is the tank capacity. Then you have the filler pipe and so forth.

Of course, adding fuel after the pump clicks off risks fouling your evap canister and/or giving fuel back to the station.

Back in Europe, as members of the military, we could buy gas coupons so that we could get tax free gas (bringing the price close to US prices). In Germany you could buy a ration of 400 liters a month (a bit over 100 gallons) with exceptions if you lived far from work or drove an RV or other gas hog.

The coupons normally came in books of 200 liters with 12 15 liter coupons, three 5 liter coupons and five 1 liter coupons.

You got very adept at squeezing the last drop in your gas tank to round it up to the coupons you had available. I think my record on my '75 Sedan de Ville was about 12 liters after the pump clicked off. You don't want to try that today for risk of damaging your car.

I have 09 auto Tran with the following mods:
ct-engineering cat back exhaust
Ingen short ram air intake.

I do 80% tollway and 20% city driving 70 is speed limit on Dallas north tollway. I go 80mph usually. I haven't got over 400miles out of a tank. I run premium.

One of my friends had a 2nd gen TSX, stock and about the same 80/20 hwy/city. I swore he said he got about 500± miles out of a tank.
I do love to get the rpms up though. I paid $1,100 for exhaust and intake and I fully take advantage of it. Makes the vtech scream and ask for more :-)

Is it possible to have the dealer check it out? I've been keeping track of my fill up for about 6 months now and using the mileage app on my phone and it shows average fuel is 17.55mpg with 253.5 miles per full tank and I'm using the 92 gas the whole time.
fuel efficiency is dependent on multiple factors and not limited to driving style or type of commute. since you mentioned you have an optional rims on it, the MPG figures were taken from tests using standard 17". Also, dropping your car affects your alignment- having a negative camber improves handling especially in corners but your straight line cruising is sacrificed. You might want to have a camber kit installed and have it properly aligned. what type of tires are you using? it can also affect fuel efficiency. High performance tires usually decrease MPG. Since you live in Hawaii (lucky you!) maybe you should not wait until your fuel gauge is close to E. Warm weather and big empty space in your fuel tank contribute to evaporation. You could be losing fuel without even using it. When i was still living in the Philippines I would fill it up as soon as I hit the half way mark. I dont want to jump into a mechanical problem right away since you didn't mention noticing problems with your engine. on my 2010 TSX auto I do get 22mpg 90% city. my 96 Civic hatch D16 does 30mpg.

while it sounds like a fun game, i'm not so sure my car would be happy about it. I don't know for sure how fuel filtration has improved from 1995 (the year my older car was made) and how clean today's fuel are especially everytime a pump station open their underground tank for refills there's always a chance that dirt can find it's way inside.
with that said, running your tank close to empty could be harmful to our vehicles. yes, there's fuel filters right before the injectors. but they are not absolutely perfect with that job. even if it does 100% filter dirt, you can clog up your fuel lines that lead to the filter if you practice this regularly. you might have a clean fuel sytem "after" the filter but you have a clogged path "before" the filter.
my younger days i've done this game and paid the price. had engine knock, had to replace fuel filter often, frequent check engine light flashing and catalytic converter failure. and that last one isnt cheap even for a 1996 model year car. ($500 carb approved cat)

proceed with caution in running your tank close to E.

Although a fun game, and props for trying to get a game going. I would not recommend it, as mentioned by Cris-crozz, it may cause unwanted fuel related problems in the future on the fuel filter, lines, and extra stress on the fuel pump because low fuel volume. Ever have trouble getting the last bit of Mickey Dee's sweet tea outta the cup? It sucks having to tilt the cup around or maneuver the damn straw around to get good flow Although its too difficult to fix/replace a fuel pump... its sure is a biotch to access it.

I got 550 and some change on the last tank. Boston <> NYC Shit loads of bumper to bumper traffic to 85+ MPH stretches. i4 wagon. this is purely going off of the screen though so take it with a grain of salt.

Your engine probably needs to break in a little more, so you can see better MPG results. Some vehicles just take 5k mi to notice the difference some 10k mi.

Went through 1 red bull, one ice latte and 2 beef jerky sticks to a 590 tank. Not too shabby I suppose.

i'm currently at 350 on my tank with about 200 "range" left but that was on my road trip that has been 90/10 freeway to city. gets at least 380 whenever i'm driving in city with all these hills in Washington! grrr!
