Engine Air Filter
I want to change the engine air filter but I can't seem to find anyplace that sells the air filter aside from my dealer here in San Diego. (Besides the K&N unit)
Does anyone know of any place, in SoCal or online, that sells the air filter for the 2nd Gen TSX 4Cyl? What is the part number?

Replaced Engine Air Filter with K&N filter
My 2009 TSX Base 6MT has 21,900 miles on it and while the MID says 30% oil life, I know the next service is a B12. Since I just changed my cabin air filter a few days ago, I wanted to change the engine air filter as well and not wait for the dealer service (or their charges).
Instead of paying the dealer for the "2" part (air and cabin filters), I did it myself. I bought the K&N (part number 33-2430) from Amazon for $40.11 (and free shipping).
Piece of cake to install. Flipped off the 5 clips and the filter housing easily pulls up and off. Put the new K&N in and voila... less than 5 minutes, the job is done. Here's a couple of pics of the old (on left) and new K&N filter:

Marvelous results... and all in (for engine and cabin air filter), I paid $55 for the job... significantly less than the dealer would charge and the K&N will last for the life of the car.

Well as a journeyman tech for over 25 years, I have seen more engines ruined by K&N filters. Those drop in filters are the worst. Dirt just blows past the seals. Good luck getting K&N to pay for any of the engine rebuild. Never seen it happen in our shop.

One suggestion if you are seeking local sources for the filters...
Cabin air firlter - most auto store (autozone, oreillys, pep boys etc) stock these since the size fits many car models
Engine air filter - not usually stocked, can be special ordered at these stores or order via online store to get

what about the brake service do we really need to do that from a dealer, I wanted to skip the brake service the service advisor said it might cause problem with warranty down the road

service guy is right, sorta. the only problem it can cause with warranty is if something bad happens as a direct result of you not servicing the brakes when you were supposed to. but you should not have warranty issues for any unrelated problems.
but you don't need to do this service from the dealer at all. you can go to any independent mechanic for your servicing needs.

I've used the same K/N drop in for my 06 TSX for +5 years. I used K/N in my old Accord for over 6 years and I gave the car to my niece with +190,000 miles still running perfectly. I clean and re-oil once a year on the TSX and RDX in the spring time.
I also order the cabin air filters off of eBay, both cars take the same type. I find I have to replace the cabin filter every year, pretty dusty in the southwest.
Since I purchased my tires at Discount Tire, I do all my rotations and balance for both vehicles free instead of doing it at Acura. Plus I have aftermarket rims and I'm afraid Acura techs will jack them all up.
I purchase Mobil 1 for both cars at Wal-Mart for about $20 a jug and take it to the dealership for oil change. All those things saves me a lot of $$$ for a B12 service.
