Brake pedal position

In my car the brake pedal (I have AT) is nearer the seat than the gas pedal. They are not in one level, so I cannot simply operate the car with my toe on the floor in one position all the time.

I accelerate, then I have to pull my leg a bit and brake, not only push the pedal by my tip-toe when a toe is still on the floor.

Is this normal? I had 5 cars before and no one has this. If it is normal, can it be solved by sports pedal set, or anything else?

Mine is the same -- the brake is a couple inches closer to the seat than the gas pedal. I have long legs, but haven't noticed a problem going between the two pedals, probably since my seat is so far back.

Guess I'll be checking. I had the dealership check the brakes a few weeks after purchase as they seem mushy. Of course they are working properly according to the service dept.

The one problem I notice when I break, if I'm not careful, I will hit part of the accelerator at the same time. I just attributed to the mushy break. Anyone else notice this?

uh, not in my car. My breaks are very sharp, I like more soft pedals, because you can adjust the braking force more fluently.

I'm usually very picky with things like this and I did not notice it after a year and 1/2 with the car.

Sometimes I doubt that anybody tested the TSX before they put it in to the production

I am very unhappy with all the issues this car has had....Should have just got a Daewoo at least I wouldn't have spent a premium (yeah I know its not that much) for problems. Maybe if they stop sending me free coffee mugs and brochures the could afford to fix the issues before I buy it.

my shins start to hurt in traffic because of the closeness of the brake pedal. but if i adjust my seat further back, then it feels like the gas pedal is too far....WTH

HHCZ, I drove a Skoda Superb for the first time yesterday and it may be what you're looking for. It rides far better than the Accord and the equipment list is better, even though it costs less. Seats were comfy, too. I drove the 170BHP diesel, but they also do a 160BHP turbo petrol and a 3.6L V6

As a trade, I was offered almost what I paid for mine (bearing in mind it was heavily discounted as part of a Honda promotion).

Oh, and there were no rattles! The interior of my Accord is driving me nuts at the moment - there's a new rattle, squeak or creak every day

^ So are you trading yours in then Silver?

The Superb looks quite nice, (very much like the VW Passart from which it was based upon). I see that you can have 6MT or 6/7 speed DSG tranny options too.

Well, I'm a bit disappointed with the build quality of this generation Accord. My last one was still solid, even after 70k and over 6 years. This one feels far less substantial and the build quality of the interior is a definite step backwards. I can forgive a few rattles and creaks, but they're appearing faster than I can knock them down! The dashboard reflection in the sunshine is another big issue for me, too. As is the softness of the paint which chips so readily. And glass which scratches with even the tiniest bit of dirt under the wiper blades. I know they sound like trivial reasons to sell a car at such an early age, but they're things which I encounter each time I make a journey and which ruin the pleasure of ownership.

Like HHCZ, I was sort of stuck because I didn't know what to trade it for, even if I did decide to. I looked at the usual suspects (Audi, BMW. Merc. etc) when I bought this but they don't seem any better. Then I found the Superb and was amazed at the quality, especially considering the price. It doesn't look as good as the Honda but I can't see it when I'm driving, anyway

Short answer is yes, if the price is right (and it seems to be) then I'm going to desert Honda.

SilverCU3, oh my God what a surprise!!! This is really interesting, that you also decided to go away from TSX. I can say that I am 100% with you, as you know.

About the Superb - I drove only the first generation, so I cannot tell anything about the second. Because the VW concern is going to be enormous, most things should be reliable. The first generation was a "superb" cruiser, so I can believe that the second is even better. But only Personally I have a huge problem with the Skoda badge

I want to try BMW 330i coupe with non M suspension and without runflats, I just love the looks of coupes.

But everything depends of how I sell the Honda ...

Oh, and BTW, the BMW 3-series has also the brake pedal a bit nearer the seat than the gas pedal

First generation Superb was just an old Passat but this car is ony partially new Passat. The rest of it is Audi and the build quality is, ummmm, superb.

I'm ashamed to say that I too have a problem with the Skoda badge. However, this Accord is so flawed that I'm now willing to look beyond the badge in order to get a decent car.

I thought the 3 Series had an awful driving position ... at least in RHD form. The pedals are offset to one side and the steering wheel to the other so you're constantly twisted.

thanks for noticing, I will check this. BTW, I just cannot understand, why cars have these problems - they are manufacturing for many years, so I am just pissed off that they had these "basic" issues.

I agree! It's hard to believe that manufacturers spend so much time, effort and money evaluating new models. The production faults aren't always due to defective materials, they're mostly due to rubbish design. I think BMW suffer from the bad driving position in the UK because they are originally LHD and then converted to RHD. Maybe you won't have the same problem where you are.

Oh, and I'd like to meet the person who decided that cars no longer need gutter strips above the doors. Every time I open my door or my window in the rain, a whole load of water drops into the interior and all over my seat!

I don't know, only thing I can think of is, that it may be some safety design, if you are a dumb ass and press both pedals together as an accident, so the car will start braking first than accelerating.

But really I don't know why. We had some older auto tranny cars, 2000 and 2002 and the had them in a one level.

I don't know, the brakes lifted on the six speed as well its leveled with the clutch, while the gas pedal is behind them. I don't find myself having to move my whole leg to press the brake though, I guess I just got used to pulling my toe back and pushing down.. Never really saw this as a inconvenience.
