2013 Accord vs TSX

I've test driven the 2013 Accord recently, and was very impressed. Certainly worth a close look vs the TSX which incidentally happens to be the Euro-Accord. The ILX is a non-starter in this respect, unfortunately. Acura has to step up its efforts to produce a real winner.

2013 Accord vs TSX

My wife and I drove just about every mid-size sedan and settled on a new Accord. The TSX was the best handling of all we drove. The Accord was to be Basque Red with the parchment leather interior, but there were none to be had in a 4 cylinder at the dealerships in NC, so we ordered one. Delivery kept slipping and the explanation from the broker was that Honda was dragging their feet while their 2012 dealer inventories were sold. After a while, we cancelled the Accord order and bought a new 2012 TSX in the same color as the Accord. Comparing the Accord EX-L and the base TSX we bought: the Accord had a roomier back seat and the feature package was a great deal on the EX-L as it included just about everything you get on the TSX with the Tech package, but at a much better price. The TSX has good sound insulation between engine compartment and the cabin and the 4 cylinder engine is pretty quiet, heard only during full-out acceleration. Road noise in the two cars was about the same. The Accord center console and dashboard looks as if it were designed by Buick - too much bling and an odd assortment of shapes and angles. So far, the TSX is giving good gas mileage - 28.5 in suburban/city driving and 34 on the highway making the requirement for premium gas less painful.

I've read reviews saying the 4 cyl TSX is under-powered, but I don't find that to be the case. It's faster than the Accord and the handling is noticeably better. One flaw in the TSX base design: The radio/climate screen. While you can adjust the brightness of the display when the headlights are on. you can't adjust it when they are not. So, when driving on a sunny day with polarized sunglasses on, the display is just about invisible. If you open the moonroof shutter, the display is really washed out and impossible to see.

Another minor irritation is the floor mats that come with the light colored (parchment, in my case) interior. Light beige floor mats are a really bad idea and start to look shabby in short order. You can buy very good quality after-market mats, which I did (in charcoal black), but the clips that hold the mats are apparently unique to the TSX and the after-market mats don't fit the clips.

Ever car I've owned/own have charcoal or clack interiors for that very reason. I cannot stand stained interiors. I wish Acura made two tone interiors where the carpets or high-use areas where in a darker shade or black.

My TL was the perfect combo IMO... black/charcoal carpets and lower door cards, taupe leather everywhere else:

Yeah the '13 Accord has a few goodies over the TSX. More room in the rear seats, rear backup camera with three position, right lane change camera, engine push start just to name a few but I gotta say I would choose the TSX because of the clean lines of the body, nice interior.
