2010 V6 thud when starting (workaround)

I noticed the same behavior on my 2010 V6 and just discovered that the car starts perfectly w/o the thud if I start it in neutral. Not sure what it means, but if it bothers you much or you don't want to be embarrassed with someone in the car, just put it in neutral. Starts just like my 2007 TL-S, sans the nice exhaust sound.

hm. so the only difference between park and neutral is the locking pin is engaged in P so the car doesn't roll. could there be something going on with the transmission where, on start up, somethign is slamming into the locking pin?

has the transmission in our cars been used in previous models? i'm curious..
