JR_Rider's progress thread

So I've had my 2009 TSX w/ technology package for about 9 months now and am just getting around to putting together this progress thread. I have done these mods over the last 9 months or so but plan to continue modding.

Depo clear headlights with 5K VLED V3 triton switchbacks for turn signals and 6K 28 Led bulbs for the DRLs and high beams. Hoen Xenon Match foglight bulbs.

ATLP grille, OEM decklid spoiler, and debadged emblems

Moving inside the car, my most unique mod is my custom Escort Smart Radar installed in my rear headrest with the display mounted into the rearview mirror by radar-mirror.com. This provides complete stealth radar detection and pairs with Escort Live.

I have also replaced all the interior bulbs with leds as well as the license plate bulbs and trunk light bulb.

My future mods include V-Leds new 5K WHITE 22W 1200LM LED HEADLIGHTS DRL FOG LIGHT bulb system, Tein SS coilovers, aero rear bumper and 20" wheels among other things.

Whoa the police radar in your rear view is wayy cool, I've never seen that before. Did you have to install everything yourself?

Thanks. Scott, who owns radar-mirror.com installed the display in the glass, controller and external speaker in the rear view mirror as well as the actual radar detector in the center headrest. The Acura dealership I have service done at actually ran the wires and installed the unit for me.

It definitely already has. The Escort Live app is game changer.

Are the v-led drl bright enough to be seen from a distance? Is the high beam still useful?

They are ok but they don't put out as much light as the original halogen bulbs. They are visible but not enough light to really rely on. VLED actually has a LED system coming out in June that will put out more light than halogen bulbs. I'm excited about those.

Just replaced my gen 1 v3 tritons with gen 2, as I was having issues with the v1s not working consistently. I also went ahead and purchased the new LED system VLEDs released to replace the drl/high beam. This setup puts out 1800 lumens, and is insanely bright. The color is a crisp white that matches my 5k tritons very well.

It sure seems like it. If I were you I would just go through the process of having them swapped out thru VLEDs for the gen 2s. The construction of the gen 1s is the reason they have so many issues. I didn't really have any issues for the first six months I had them installed but it was downhill from there.

@tsxxxy inspired me to tint my taillight assemblies candy red. I wanted to leave part of the reverse section clear, but wanted the area smaller like Audis and BMWs. I need to clean the tint up some as I got some dripping. Need to wait for the weather to warm up some though.

Sure.

Direct Light:

Darker lighting:

I am running VLED led reverse bulbs which have a similar output to halogen bulbs but don't show up very bright in direct sun light.

Thanks! The beauty of the radar install is that it's completely stealth. You could install a similar setup and no one would be the wiser.

Yup, somewhere close to that. If I had it to do over, I would have used a different detector but it would have ended up being closer to $2000 with the display mounted in the mirror. I am definitely looking to get rims at some point and lower the car as well. A set of vossens, more than likely.

Thanks @rawger, I was pretty happy with how it turned out. Radar detector definitely was up there. Most people don't spend that kind of money on a detector. I used to drive thru VA almost every weekend so I wanted a stealth unit.

Apparently they do have radar detector.. detectors in VA. I know two people who have been pulled over for being detected.

When i cross into VA i slow waayyy down... so many state troopers. Saw a guy speed past me in an audi, not even 5 minutes later i saw 2 state troopers had pulled him over.

I've gotten a ticket before in VA for that very reason. I originally purchased this detector because I thought it was undetectable but I was mistaken. It most certainly is detectable and I've been pulled for it but blame it on an old detector that I leave in the trunk. I turn it on and off constantly while driving in VA, but it's a hassle.

No doubt. If it can save you money from tickets and insurance it's definitely worth it man. I learned that from my cousin who was constantly hammered with speeding tickets and then he finally bought a radar detector. He's gotten 1 since then, but it was bad luck though I was with him, he lives right by a school zone and he was cutting through to get into the lane and literally 5 seconds of being on the road a cop was gunning his speed, got him at like 30 I think when it's a limit of 20.

Douche cop even made him peel off his taillight tints right then or said it would be another ticket.
