Friday the 13x2 (26) - Warning - Graphic Pics
I have to say, this must be the most common type of collision or something, as I know a bunch of people who experienced it: 2 right-turn lanes, with the rightmost lane a right-turn only lane. I'm in the center lane, about to make right turn, lady in rightmost lane not only does not make a right turn, but when she sees me making a right turn she *accelerates* and her Camry actually drives up onto my rim and flies over my car at a 45+ degree angle.
Fortunately, no one was hurt. The lady was shaken up a bit emotionally and I even gave her a hug. I'll probably need a hug once the reality of what happened to my car sinks in.

Oh geez, that is horrible. I'm sorry for your unfortunate accident MrOtocinclus. I hope there isn't any structural or chassis damage. It's good that nobody was injured but the poor car.

dude that sucks. What was that stupid lady thinking????
I woulda cussed her out but then if my mom did the same thing I wouldn't want some dude cussing her out, you did the right thing i guess...
Just last week my month old 2010 V6 was broken into and the bastard stole my month old brand new Lenovo laptop. He smashed the rear right window. It cost me $120 for the glass and another $120 to install it. Next time it happens to a friend I think I can install the glass myself it looked pretty easy.

Yo otincinclus it really sucks that something as simple as following normal turning rules can cause an accident like this. It makes me angry to think about how easily this could have been avoided. Good thing your rims werent damaged and that you came out okay though....and instead of a hug you shoulda gave her the finger lol

Thanks everyone
Thank you everyone for your kind words. Much appreciated.
I feel the same way. The front door no longer closes properly (it slightly hits the rear door, and sticks out on top). Hopefully, it's just the door itself that's off.
ttk5, I totally agree with you. I've had close calls like these before where both cars stop at the last split second. When the lady did not stop I had all these thoughts in my head just in that split second. First, there was the utter disbelief like WTF why isn't she stopping. Second was oh shit, there goes my brand spanking new car, and third was crap, I'm going to have to deal with this in the coming weeks.
Considering what happened, though, I'm pretty happy with the way I handled the situation. I've been known to have a temper but in that case I knew it wouldn't really help, so I just tried to be as nice as possible. I myself was shaking also from all the adrenaline and just from being in that situation.
Hopefully, everything will get sorted out in the end. I drove my wife's old accord last night and I missed my car already.
Thanks again, everyone!

The same thing happened to me getting onto the Lions Gate brige in North Vancouer. Two left turn lanes to get on the bridge and the lady in the outer most lane decided to straight inot the mall and I was turning left. Lucky I was able to avoid her.
Good to hear you are ok. Hope everything works out.
I got rear ended in Vancouer and pushed into the car in front of me. My wife thought I was going to kill someone. She alwasy worries when I get out of my car in what could be a heated situation.
I ended up replacing the front grill. No other damage.

MrOtocinclus, glad to hear you are alright. Hopefully the body shop can get it fixed to your satisfaction. Also, good on you to stay calm in this difficult situation, shows a lot of maturity - (speaking as an old man).

yeah my car's been in the body shop for the last two weeks, I miss it soooo much. I think it sucks that so many people suck at driving. we have this circle here that is two lanes until one side of it the right lane has to turn right and the left lane can either turn right or go around the circle again.. and people always cut across the left lane from the right lane cause they don't understand they HAVE to turn right.. accidents happen there weekly, its sad they haven't done anything to correct stupid peoples driving..
It's awesome that she rolled up on top of your rim though, cause insurance won't replace aftermarket wheels :-P so yayyyy

she needs to get cited for not obeying traffic control signs. i'm sure it would fall under disobeying a "Right lane(s) must turn right" sign. it takes a couple of tickets and court summons for a person to finally drive with safety and courtesy.

I decided not to get a rental because of the hassle with filing paperwork, plus the fact that I don't really need a car to get to and from work. I'm anal about my car and keep it clean and stench-free and most of the rentals I've been in are kind of nasty to be honest. My adjuster said I can get reimbursed for taking public transportation, so we'll see.
No problem, this happened in Oakland, 12th and Castro. The freeway I was trying to get onto was 980. If you travel down 12th street you'll see what I mean about the right turn only lane.
Anyway, I'm supposed to get my car back tomorrow. Definitely looking forward to that. Will let you guys know how it goes. Thanks again for all the kind wishes.

Man, I'll gladly concede victory to you in this contest. From the sound of it hopefully you're OK after that collision.
So, I finally got the car back yesterday. I'm pretty satisfied with the results, especially the new front Aero bumper. It really was a "wow" moment when I saw it for the first time. I've seen it plenty of times in pictures here on the forum and elsewhere, and I never thought it was that special. Turns out it's one of those parts you have to see in person to truly appreciate.
Of course, knowing me, I have to point out some of the imperfections. The weatherstripping and chrome trim on the door is slightly off (we're talking millimeters), and at the edges of the door and fender I can see where the paint pooled, if that makes any sense. Still, I'm attributing that to normal post-collision repair, i.e. the car can never be as perfect as it was coming from the factory.
I also got a new wheel as the old one did get scratched.
The body shop did a nice detail on the car so I'll post pictures as soon as I get the chance.

pooling = unacceptable. Don't let them run one over on you on poor quality work just cause they did a decent job and they say " You only notice cause its your car" .. I just got my shit fixed the right way.. makes a difference. Car looks practically brand new. Though My hood is a little raised I'm going to be complaining about that as soon as I get som etime to get back over there

No good deed goes unpunished
haha no, I meant I got a new *replacement* Enkei wheel, not new different wheels.
I'll definitely get the paint pooling thing checked out, thanks Tish.
Now, as the title of this post says, no good deed goes unpunished. I spoke with my adjuster earlier today and he said he was waiting on some sort of dispute with the other insurance company. They had the gall, after calling me to confirm what happened, to say that I made an unsafe lane change. They even said that we were traveling on Castro Street, when we were actually traveling on 12th Street. Unbelievable. To think I was so sympathetic and kind to that lady.
