I have it for my D80 and it is God sent. I use this instead of my manual.

Now to answer your Q.

I shoot with a Nikon D80 which is also a DSLR. I'm a bit of a snob (narrow minded) when it comes to cameras so I'm not at all familiar with what Sony makes. To answer your question though, I use it as a point and shoot when shooting the car.

Unless you understand aperture priority, shutter priority and all the rest of it, this is going to be your best bet. In fact most DSLR's are so good these days that Auto is very good unless you are doing specific stuff. Don't forget about the photo editing programs.

I have a Sony A330 as well which funny enough, i haven't used to take any photos of my car with. I've been using my blackberry.

The camera is fantastic. Like Luchin said, if the auto feature in most of these cameras are great. Try getting a new lens. It will change your picture quality significantly. Go check out a wide angle lens.

I have the A300, the 10.2 meg pixel CCD it used is the same one found in a Nikon D60. The photo place I dealt with recommend it to me for best bang for the dollar.

I actually used the auto setting a lot on the Alpha, but most of my other photos I just used my Fuji J250 point and shoot.

yeah i use point and shoot a lot and used it on the new car too. i love the camera.
i got it the 2 lens kit and i wouldnt consider my self a photographer so i dont really want to get another lens. ill post the pics once my 15 day thing is up.
i think i might try some shots playing with the shutter and aperture settings and see what i get.

Yes, you'll want to mess around and try out different settings. The settings you used in the morning might not work well for evening shoots. There are many factors that can influence the quality of the pics.

I have a Canon Rebel XT for my DSLR. I use my 18-55mm kit lens with a UV and Polarizing filter. I also use a 50mm 1.8 standard prime lens. I usually take pictures at night since it's the only time where I don't have to risk getting run over. I've shoot mainly in 'M' mode now since I have learned a lot in the past two years since this SLR was given as a gift from my sister about 4 years ago but was always using the automatic settings. I could say I have definitely improved compared to when I first started.

My best advice is to read your manual to understand your camera. Second read some beginners guide online such as www.dslrtips.com. It gave me a good understanding on what shutter speed, aperture, etc are. Another thing is to read up on photography forums and just see how people take pictures and then of course just mess with your camera. I just went through trial and error with my camera.

As for what I do, most of my pictures, especially at night, I use a tripod. I suggest you get a pretty good one, don't buy a cheap one. trust me its worth the little extra money. The 50mm 1.8 for really made my life easier with taking pictures at night. I usually stay in low ISO. With the other stuff, just experiment. have fun!
