TSX Projector: Clear Lens & Color Mod Project

My summer break is almost over so I wanted to do some "major" mods before school starts when I wont have time to do any mods.

I'm planning on doing a clear lens swap and a color mod on the TSX projector. I always been a fan of the TSX projector and now I have a TSX I figure I should do the color mod to get more colors and swap the stock lens with clear ones to get a sharper cutoff. Since I have the headlight open I figure I get rid of the yellow reflectors too. I wanted to install halos but I couldn't find a kit for it. But TRS sell qualify universal Halo kit. So I'm planning on measuring the diameter of the projector ring and high beam ring and hopefully one of the universal kit will fit.

This isn't my first time doing this kind of project but I still feel I'm still a novice, especially when the car is only 3 months old! Since I couldn't find any threads concerning this, for the 2G TSX, I decided to start this to see if anyone has any suggestions/comment.

If anyone is interested in a DIY, I can try to take some picture when I doing the mods...

its basically like any other headlight DIY.

-bake
-open
-do whatever you need to do inside
-use silicone to seal it up.

My only concern is that I'm basing my research for the color mods from Hidplanet and it was for the 1G TSX projectors. I was trying to see whether or not the 1G and 2G TSX projectors were the same but no luck so far. So I decided to go ahead and use the 1G method on the 2G and hopefully the results will be similar. Also the main TSX color mod thread at HIDplanet there's two method.

1. 2 #8 washers in the bottom nipple
2. 3 #8 washers in the bottom nipple

Various member have success with one method over another. Since do not have a spare ballast and computer supply supply I will be going with method #2, since it's likely to produce the most color, and hope for the best. lol

Besides these the above, I feel pretty confident on everything else.

you would need to figure out if the 2nd gen TSX lenses are frosted or not.
if they are clear, then there would be no point on going with the 1st gen TSX lense.

have you thought about ZKW-R lenses!?
ZKW-R with Phillips 85122+ is an awesome combination!!!!

I did some research on there and found this thread to be pretty helpful.
https://acurazine.com/forums/2g-tsx-2009-2014-143/g-009-diy-cleared-headlights-2g-lots-pictures-767424/

The only thing I will be doing differently is the temp and time I will be baking my headlight.

I always baked my headlight at 250F for 15 mins. Unlike the OP in that thread I never have to "struggle" to pull the headlight apart. I just use a flathead to pry open a smart section and from there I pull everything apart by hand. I think this is due to me baking it for a longer period of time.

I baked my IS350 headlight at this temp and time for almost 10 times now and never once did I have any problem whatsoever. I can pull them apart easily is not because I did it so many time because I reapply a crap ton of silicon sealant every time to ensure a proper seal.

If you want I can snap some pictures while I'm do the mod. My new 7D need to be broken in anyway

One of the first thing I did when I bought my car was to check the lens lol. And it's not clear nor frosted, it's somewhere in the middle, "foggy"?

Isn't the TSX projector only 2.5"? If I remember correctly the ZKW-R is 3". I already bought a pair of TSX-R from TRS. From what I heard and seen the TSX-R is a pretty good performer, plus I got a great deal on them to.

I actually switched from the stock 85122 bulb with a pair of 5000k Morimoto bulbs to get a more white output. But if the stock 85122 bulb produces more color with the color mod I will be switching back. I think I have a pair of 85122+ somewhere, I'll test that out too to see if there is a different in color output.

for the 11+ are there clear alternatives to the amber instead of just removing them?

I'm not 100% sure but I think you can get a clear one, can't see why there would be any other color since it's our turn signal. But why pay for a clear one when removing the amber produces the same look! You can paint them to whatever color you want but then you'll lose your turning signals so that a no go. So as far as I can see, removing the amber piece is the best route.

5000k Morimotos + 3000k Morimotos = Orgasmic!

That's my current set up, but unfortunately my 3000k produces a green output

I agree that the TSX projectors are great but I wouldn't go as far as saying it's one of the best one out there.

As for the mod, the only downfall of doing it is that I loose a little bit of output and sharpness, but with the clear lens it should compensate for the decrease in sharpness. I think it's worth it if I can give me a more colorful output. Also this thing is not permanent so if I don't like it I can always revert it back.

As for school I'm in a accelerated MBA program so my summer break is only 4 weeks long lol.
