Exhaust Mods

I recently picked up an '09 TSX and coming from the 3G TL forums, are there any mods we can do to the stock exhaust similar to the TL's Stage 1-4 exhaust.

The RV6 Pre-Cat delete is currently in the works. Not really see anything for cat-back exhaust except for custom jobs.

I'm sure the tsx has a mid muffler. take it to an exhaust shop and ask to remove the mid muffler.

Yea, there's a big resonator before the exhaust splits into the 2 mufflers.

^awesome. there you go, SavKyle.
with the "stage mods" you can apply the same principles to the TSX as your 3rd gen TL.

ask about a resonator delete, but i think youd get alot more drone than you will like without the resonator (accord guys have a similar problem)

most of them just use dual magnaflow exhausts

this is a cheap way to get an exhaust tone from your car, without spending thousands of dollars on a catback.

I dont know how it would sound on the I4......
but the six cylinder should sound sexy as hell.

from factory, Acura has put in place a couple of resonators on the exhaust to quiet it down and remain luxurious.
by replacing these "mid mufflers" with a straight pipe, the sound will be much more pronounced than stock.

ive done a res delete on another car (sixer), but i dont think it will sound pretty on the I4

i wouldnt waste alot of money on an exhaust for this car, we wont see much if gains from exhaust work,

you could always import a fujitsubo or megan or fox racing catback

t-jay was gonna put on dual magnaflows but never got around to it. you can always try other exhausts too, like borla

also, a 1G tsx exhaust was retrofitted onto the 2g before, but it required alot of custom fab work according to the user

TTK has a custom built single exhaust. But basically thats it.

Thanks for the responses guys. I did a stage 3 on my TL so i kept the stock resonator. Any ideas how either stages 1,2 or 3 may sound?

i have the resonator delete on my car, i thoroughly enjoy the sound, nice and deep when ya hit it, but quiet until 3K RPMs. keep in mind, thats the intake resonator, not the exhaust.(im pretty sure theres a diff lol) today i was asked what exhaust work i've done cause it sounds good so idk.

Damn call a brother out! I promise i will put on the magnaflows next week and post a video. I did a resognator delete on my RL before i put on the magnaflows and it sound a little raspy but like a g35ish sound. OOnce i put on the magnaflows it was meaner like an atlp exhaust. I was kind of hoping for an atlp exhaust for the tsx would come out soon but i guess being that i opened my mouth and made a promise i must deliver. That and im tired of my wife asking when im gonna get those damn muffler out from under the bed, lmao!

I did a cat delete on mine with the help of an unnamed local muffler shop. $100 and power gains you can actually feel.

Basically, we replaced the 2nd cat with a straight pipe. There is no noticeable increase in sound as the rest of the exhaust is still stock. However, the car does pull harder and revs a bit more freely. Will try and post some pics later.

Pros:
-cheap
-all heat shields are intact
-power gains you can feel
-lil bit more bass in the exhaust tone

Cons:
-none

The shop charged me a total $100 for labor and replacement pipe. Only butt dyno was used to measure power gains of 12HP/15 lb/ft torque @ 5500 RPM

There are apps for smart phones that simulate the gtech. Are they as accurate as a mustang dyno, no. But, it will give you a baseline to start from when you do mods.
I've got a few pulls with mine since we bought the car to establish a reference point. Now that I'm about to start modding I'll have some numbers to toss around.

anyway we can gut the cat or make a dummy cat so it looks like theres still a cat, but unrestricted? CA emission law requires the cat so i'll fail the visual exam

lol i dont even remember the last time i went to get a smog..

new cars that are coming out does not require smog for about 4 years or so.. i think you should be fine..

you can always just go get a straight pipe and weld 3 or 2 bolt flanges on to it so that when it comes time to smog, you can just switch it out.

Didnt wanna post in XLR8s interest thread, but since we arent going to see gains anyway from an i4 exhaust, all you are going to get with a full setup is some nice stainless steel stock diameter piping, a new resonator, and 2 new mufflers. You might as well buy two magnaflows add a glasspack resonator, go to a good shop and pay for a quality install and you have essentially the same thing, for less, and you have alotta options.

You can do a big/small resonator, and with the mufflers if you get the universal magnaflows without the tips you can pick any shape muffler and exhaust tip that you want.

For the adventurer, a cut and dry parts list:

Magnaflow 14829 x 2
Magnaflow 18135 x 1

Go buy it install and tell me if I was right.
All you have to lose is your hard earned money and time

Tjay is a smart guy.

The only differences off the top of my head: t-jay killed his cat, and has a different style resonator. Otherwise essentially the same setup im proposing

I want to see someone do a DIY on spooning out your cat

yup i was planning on doing this but with the cat in place. euronoob has a similar setup but with the stock res and cat. so might do a mix of both. Muffler/glasspack/stock cat

if you do magnaflow with new pipes, but stock cat and stock resonator, would it sound the same?

Yep. This is what im advocating, leave the cat in place, two exhausts, and a glasspack. Its on my to-mod list

ive been trying to find videos and searching random forums to see any 4cyclinders with that setup but cant find anything. all i find is the glasspack used as a muffler rather than a resonator. i just need that little bit to convince me to pull the trigger

even if you find something similar it will still sound so different from our engine. search on , theyve used the glasspacks as mid-muffler resonators, its where I originally read about it.

They also have the closest genetic engine. I mean, a muffler is a resonator afterall
