Tech VS Premium Wattage.

Does anyone know what the wattage is on the stereo in the TSX Premium vs the Tech?

I think the Premium has 340W to power 7 speakers and the Tech has 410W to power 10 speakers.

You're wrong on both.

Premium: 360W

Tech: 415W

I have the TSX sales brochure right in front of me.

Thank WoodEE.

So that means the Premium has on average 51W/channel and the Tech has 41W/channel.

Could be the reason why so many of us are blowing speakers. Not enough power.

Do we have any audio gurus on this forum that could lend a hand in this theory?

The power draw of each speaker isn't going to be uniform. The tweeters are going to draw a different amount of power than the mid-range speakers, and same goes for the subwoofer.

I have not had a chance to look at the base system yet but for the ELS system at 1% THD the output ICs are rated as follows (8 channels total):

12volts 4ohm 15w, at 2ohm 28w
13volts 4ohm 18w, at 2ohm 32w
14volts 4ohm 21w at 2ohm 39w

I’m working on a replacement for the ELS amp and will have more info on this system as I get along.

For the base system I am working on an amp bypass adapter so you can install aftermarket amps like I did with the 1st gen. I need to take some measurements off the base system before I can finish the design.

As far as power in the base amp it is likely comparable to the ELS since you are only working with a 12 volt system and basically the same type of output IC.

Car manufactures do not have to follow the same rules as audio equipment manufactures do. Basically they can state power any way they want. The specs I posted were from the spec sheet of the audio chip used in the ELS amp. Honda can state anything they want but the chip manufacture has to state the truth. Besides, 410 watts at 12 volts would be over 34 amps, the power pin on the electrical connector on the amp is only rated for 7 amps.

Here is a photo of the 8 channel ELS amp from the TSX, It’s a little small to be a 410 watt amp.
