Reverse Camera Routing

Hi all,

Looking to put in a CarPlay head unit and a reverse camera.
How did you guys end up routing your rear camera wires to the head unit and what did you use as the insertion point from the camera to the inside of the car?

Just did this a few weeks ago. Was easier than I expected; the head unit install was worse than the camera. Ran wires from head unit behind steering wheel. Then the rubber strip around door openings can be pulled out. Pull out, run down that channel to door jamb. Plastic panels inside door can be pulled up, run through there. Use a fish tape or wire hanger to run under pillar between doors. Plastic panel in back seat door opening pulls up as well, this one I pulled up from the rear after pulling out rubber strip. Then under the seat bolster and seatbelt bolt, through rear seat opening to trunk (but under the trunk liner material). From there fished it to driver side gooseneck hinge, removed hinge cover, ran it under hinge cover, which takes it to the trunk lid where you need to be. If you feel around inside trunk under that lip, there is a small plastic panel on the left. I think the camera on tech package TSX goes there. Drilled it in through there so no need to cut metal. The chrome trim piece above the license plate pulls out. There are 6 clips you need to work open, remove this to see where that plastic piece is.

Seriously, this wasn’t that bad. I put in a new Headunit a few months ago and put in the camera wire just in case I ever decided to do it, didn’t want to have to remove head unit. Then I just went to see how I could get wire to trunk, found it wasn’t that bad, then went to see how to get wire to trunk lid and backup light wire, wasn’t that bad, then it was done. HU install was way more of a pain in the ass, this was really easy compared to that.

Thanks for the explanation!
I'm having a hard time visualizing - was there a guide that you followed?

I probably found some DIYs here for removing trunk trim, but nothing really step by step. I can try to take some photos pointing stuff out when I have a chance.

I installed a backup camera that was wireless and connected it to an aftermarket GPS unit that I mounted in front of the shifter, console where the storage door is. I did not have to run any wires, plus didn't have to disable the "tech" stuff and deal with a blank screen etc. The good news it all only cost me $75.00......
