magic speedo

Does anyone know how the speedo and tach work? They both have displays in the center, so can't have standard centermount needles- they swing around the dial from the outside! I can imagine a hidden centermount behind the display that contirts around the outside edge of the dial. If anyone has a picture of one disassembled, that would sure help!

I don't have a pic, but I let my 16 year old son with his learner's permit drive mine the other day (yikes!). From the passenger seat, it appears that your description is correct. You can see the needle bent 90 degrees and extend behind the gauge. It appears that it bends again and wraps behind to a centermount on the back side of the gauge. I would also be interested to see pics if anyone had it apart.

I don't think he's trying to change them out. I think he wants to know how they work.

i've got no beef with the speedo, other than perhaps being evil demon magic, I just don't get it. I hadn't tried peering at it from an angle. It is as non-intuitively weird as the classic Volvo ribbon speedo.

They appear similar to the old Mercedes gauges that I'm familiar with... The floating needle is attached to a ring on the outside with teeth on it. It's driven by a little pinion gear.

Here's your magicians trick illusion, revealed:

Cool! So the whole wheel is turning and the needle just rides along, glowing (demonically)? We live in magical times.

Acura does source that part from the same supplier as Merc: SatanCo. So there is some small element of refined evil built into it.

actually I hear it's like a flattened question mark- snaking from a central axis around the center screen. Still cool, still witchy.
