Backup Camera Question

Is it possible to use the backup camera when you are not in reverse? Any backdoor method of accessing this?

Thanks

Tony

When you are driving, if you put your gear selector into reverse, it will activate your camera, the car has a safety feature which doesn't screw up your gears, but this has to be done at a reasonable speed. I wouldn't recommend it.

Reason

Lots of reasons I guess

Could be helpful for changing lanes and of course for the hot driver behind me!

Tony, I am sure this is controlled by the gear selector. Probably a switch that closes when you are in "R". HELM just released the electrical service manual for the 09 TSX, and it most likley shows the switch and its location. Having the switch HOT WIRED with an outboard switch might just work? Sometimes these things are simple but knowing Honda, it may not be...

In the TSX the only thing you will see is the street with this camera. The TL's is Much better.

In the 1st gen, we can hack our navi to get backup cameras and dvd players. Maybe the circuit is the same in your generation? When placed into reverse, the navi switches to the camera. You probably just need to find out which wire causes the switch, and then either connect it to ground or power via a toggle switch. The navi will think you're in reverse, so it'll switch over. I don't know if it'll make your reverse lights turn on, though.
