Some HU's are able to use the wheel buttons. Dunno about his.

Yeah once you take off the stock HU all you get on the top screen is HVAC.

Honda one costs $250 usd. I admit, honda bezel looks far more elegant though.

Based on the pictures the Honda one does look better but I haven't received mine yet so i can't say. i def wouldn't pay $250 for it unless it looked way better. Especially since I will be cutting it up

The posts on the side, and then notches into the clips so that you can slide the tablet in

Also, you need to re-use the plastic orange clips from your OEM HU thing.

Just waiting on my OTG cable before mounting in the car. I ended up paying for the Kernel to find out that I have to use an OTG cable or it won't deep sleep. Should be in on Monday. also need to clean up the excess glue.

lookin good, but yea you need to clean up that glue. also make sure that OTG is a right angle, or solder on a right angle (that's what i did) or it wont fit right.

Some pics:
So just a tip if anyone else is doing this. Don't bolt the radio back in under the bottom because if you do then you won't be able to mount it, you have to push the radio in as far as you can and angled slightly downwards as the font PCB connectors stick out a bit. This might be because I may not have mounted it as high as iCrap.

No I thought leaving it on would allow me to bolt it in, I unbolted it from the bracket but the radio brackets are still on the radio.

I left it on and just pushed the deck back and it fits fine. I don't think I need to take it completely off

That looks good! I'm guessing the screen turns on/off when it gets power/no power? If not how do you control the screen? Also are you just going to be forever on bluetooth mode?

You use the steering wheel controls to switch modes. I dont use radio, xm or cd

Could be all the extra stuff you have. I have a 2.1 amp but I'm only charging the tablet

My camera didn't work either when first installed.....it has white and black power leads so naturally white is +12v and black is ground.......unless they're not. The power lines on this camera were swapped..... took an hour of my life to reach that conclusion.

^^ The camera itself works... but the capture card doesn't always get picked up by the tablet.

P81ACRD Bootup Sound Cure

For the folks who have installed the P81 and find the bootup sound obnoxious have a look at the below link. I installed one of these with a 25 second delay to kill the P81 audio output until it's completely booted. I'm using the small speaker for navigation / system sounds....all I had to do was intercept one leg of the speaker line and tie both ends into the relay output of the delay timer....to power the timer you need to grab accessory power from fuse position #18 located above the brake pedal....I used one of those "add a fuse" devices to break out an extra line. When you turn your car to ignition or accessory the timer will begin it's countdown from where you set it....the relay will engage after that time and stay put until it's reset on the next trip.....this thing's a gem

Anyway to keep the time on the upper LCD when using an aftermarket HU? And where do you get the OEM bezels from?

OEM bezel I have no idea, but it's around $250 and you can just buy the Metra kit for $30.
No way to keep the time, that function is from the original HU.

I finally had time to take the P-81 out this weekend and flip the switch to EX-L. Initially I thought the 72F/22C issue was fixed by the switch but yesterday I noticed the temperature was reset to 22C again. So I did some more testing this morning and found if I turn the key to ACC and let the P-81 load past the boot-up screen, then turn the car on, the temperature is not reset. If I turn the car on before the boot-up screen finishes, the temperature is reset to 22C. Hope this info helps others.

Nice.. Anyone having issues with it being flush.. I finally installed mine...artj will be proud.. However.. I can't get it to sit all the way back.. It's off like an 1/8 of an inch.. Also.. GPS looks great but is a little slow sometimes.. I know other people observed this as well.. Aside from that.. Unit looks awesome in the car.. Took about 5 hours total..still need to run backup cam and rca outs

Hey Jason....glad to hear you're finishing up the project....you may want to mess around with the trip box and cable bundle back there....I did a couple of things that finally allowed me to get the unit to sit flush....first, I removed all the cables from the P81 connector that I wasn't using like video, etc. Second, I removed a few winds of tape on the TSX cable bundle to separate the airbag connector from the data cable....that gave me a little more wiggle room to get the unit in position. Also, my trip box lies flat behind the unit with the data connector pointing down...I removed it from the main assembly as this allows the small box to kind of slide back under the data cable where it's out of the way but maybe you've already tried all this?

Dang....Justin, Justin, Justin.....got it now...it's been a while.. please pardon my brain spasm.
Yeah I pulled the green wire and a bunch of other stuff...if you unwrap the airbag cable I think you'll see it all goes together nicely...with a little bit of persuasion
