2010 TSX w/Tech Navigation.. worth it?
Hi everyone. I am looking at getting a 2010 TSX / tech package. I guess I have a few questions which hopefully can be answered by some experts like you! I am wondering if the Navigation is worth it. Most reviews I read say the graphics are not that nice and the screen is pretty low resolution… is this true?? The last thing I want to do it spend $32k on a car and have it look dated when it’s brand new. This leads to my second question, is the low resolution problem something that can be updated/fixed with a new DVD update (will they update the UI with DVD updates, or no?), or is the screen just not capable of that displaying better graphics. This makes me sad because I was super excited about the TSX until I learned from reviews that the screen just isn’t that nice. Will the 2011 TSX Sedans have the new HDD based Navi with better resolution? If so, when do they hit dealerships and go on sale? Don’t know how long I can wait though because if my car sells now I’ll need something soon. Thanks everyone!

I just got my TSX Tech last Friday and I love it..I don't know about the resolutions and all that, but I will say, this car is loaded with goodies. I'm not even finished reading the manual(s)..do yourself a favor, take an extended drive in a tech and see how you like it. Ask these questions to the dealer, that might be able to answer you also...btw, you won't pay $32 for the car, even with taxes and tags..I got mine for $29.8.

If your concept of worth is only the nav screen itself, then no, it's not worth it, because frankly the screen is a joke:
1) Low resolution, looks like old school EGA graphics.
2) Glare in sunlight makes the screen useless (this happens a lot), though there is supposedly a fix for this.
When you go for a test drive, ask to see the TL tech. That's a VGA screen and it looks dramatically better than the TSX screen. I know that the 2011 TSX Wagon will have the higher resolution screen, so perhaps the sedans will as well.
Total package, yes, the tech is worth it because the tech package is more than just an lcd screen.

I think 2010 nav screen was pushed back to reduce unwanted glare. 2011 model will have HDD. I can't find any writeup on screen resolution improvement anywhere. That said, I agree with MrOto, the Tech package is worth it with built-in Navigation and available Real-Time Traffic and Weather data services and of course the rear parking camera is priceless.

I guess I asked my inital question wrong. I agree the camera/weather/traffic are pretty good reasons to get the tech, not to mention the els system-which is why I think I decided on getting it. I guess what I meant was the LCD can display the backup camera (which may or may not be higher quality than the maps- I didnt get to see that in action). Which makes me wonder why the maps are such "low quality". If the screen can display a camera image it should be able to support higher map images. That's what I meant by would Acura release a new dvd that would have new firmware/maps with improved higher res maps and menus, etc. Hope that makes more sense. Any ideas when the 2011's will be available?

My car is less than a week old and I have used the navi one time so far in the day time and I think I did a pretty good job so far. The graphics are the same as my nuvi 760. As long as it gets me from point A to B that is all that matters.
One of the dealers said the new TSX might be in Sept or Oct.
If you find the answer to your original questions from the dealer, please post it.

it's a car-drive it
I presently own a 06 tsx with nav. It came in very handy with the 3 cross country roadtrips we did. I am planning to buy a 2011 tsx and it will definately have nav. I could get a portable nav but do not want to worry about it getting stolen. (have to keep removing it from the car and then putting it back)

I used my navi for the first time yesterday..it worked very well..I didn't even look at the graphics..I just listened to the voice commands and it got me right where I needed to go. The one feature I really like is using the mp3. I never had it before and I always keep it displayed on the navi screen. Having that much music at your finger tips is awesome.

2011 model should have HDD instead of DVD based Navi. Below is from China Honda Spirior, noticed the rear camera has lines on them to guide you, hopefully we will get that on 2011 model year.
And the interior (look at the bottom of the centre console it said HDD).

I have had my 10 TSX Tech now for nearly a couple months. The graphics on the lcd are not great but they are adequate for the purpose. Glare is a definite issue with the sunroof open on sunny days. However, I live in Pittsburgh so not as much a problem .
No complaints but the LCD certainly will not be a great video displayer. My thoughts on that is why the heck does the driver care about movies anyway...

I predict a hhd navi vs dvd navi pros and cons thread coming soon.
I was browsing last night and couldnt find any. Does anyone know where I can find the chrome gas/brake gas pedals as shown in the pic above.

You can get it from Marcus at Heel Toe Automotive.

I got mine from Europe because I needed the 6MT version.

I have the 2010 TSX with the tech package and i have no problems with it, but the glare is a problem sometimes, but after closing the sunroof, i dont have a problem. Also, i dont think they would install a HDD navi instead of a DVD because it would increase the cost of the vehicle, and they probably wanted to make a navi available for more affordable cars
