Why would someone buy the ILX vs. the TSX?

I completely disagree with this statement. Whether still warranted these days or not (which is now totally debatable, I feel) MANY people's eyebrows raise and I get an, "Oh?!? Wow, nice car!" when we are casually discussing vehicles and I mention the name Acura as my daily driver.

well i found out that the ilx is selling...here are the may 2012 sales figures, in which you'll see that the newly facelifted tl is selling extraordinarily well (they probably won't axe that model until late 2013, thought its tech is very outdated). The RDX's sales surprised me given the fact that it is so new. But, yea the ilx went on sale on may 22nd and you'll see that people are in fact buying it (more so than the zdx, at least):

Why? In my opinion, its a better looking car, and gets much better fuel economy.

Well guys, I had the 2.4 6sp manual ILX for 5 months. The power was wonderful. The size was perfect for me. A semi truck didn't see me and just kept driving running me into the median and flipping me on my top at 60mph. I haven't got a scratch on me. I owned a v6 TSX for a day before I took it back. The ILX in the manual version has perfect power to weight ratio and got lots of compliments for its looks. I loved it. I can't help but wonder how I may like the 4 cylinder TSX now that I am car shopping again. The v6 just wanted to spin. I drove the ILX automatic and it was pitifully underpowered. If you want to judge the ILX, I suggest giving the manual a whirl. And I'm gonna miss all that power at 34mpg, you just can't beat that.

The dealer lent me a temporary vehicle while they did rust-proofing for me (the electronic one). I had an ILX TECH (AT). The power in that thing was terrible. I was practically annoyed the entire time I was in that car. I haven't driven the 2.4L 6sp, but just my 2c on the ILX AT.

The AT is only 150hp. Coming from a TSX of course you would be annoyed with the horsepower.

Comparing the two cares isnt right.

Well this may be just me, but my manual 2.4 impressed me much more than the TSX, but the ILX being a new model, the push button start and the steering wheel design being different as well as the dial temp control instead of the toggle, the TSX just seemed "old" but they havent changed them interior wise. I also just like the power wieght ratio. I agree on the automatic ILX, I fell in love with the ILX and just knew i was going to buy it until i drove it (automatic) and it made me want to cry that a person would have to put premium fuel in that dog. I've driven base civics that seemed faster. If Acura figures out how to fit the automatic with the 2.4 in the ILX, Game Over!! I prefer manual but most of America does not.

TSX - while awesome in it's own right, is a victim of product overlap... ILX on the bottom, RDX and TL on the top... and the new Accord crowds it in the right trim packages...

That being said - the TSX is still a great car - even better in the SportWagon format...

R20 - definitely different in the ILX...

To get the K24, gotta get the stick... and then no Tech/Premium/Advance or whatever they call it these days...

I would never get ILX... unless they design that ugly rear...

TSX has no push start nor color lcd with base, still going with TSX..
and it is much prettier...

I'd rather get civic than to get ILX if I am in market for compact car...

The whole concept was dumb from the start. A lot of you guys are missing on the fact that, this current TSX was suppose to be the ILX (in terms of size and power ratio), instead of being a bloated up TSX, with a fuglier exterior.

The 2nd gen TSX is backwards step in evolution for the line up and theres not much to be disputed here. There is not one thing the 2nd gen does better than the 1st gen, aside from a few minor tweaks here and there + a timing chain instead of a timing belt.

It is like if BMW made the F30 328i, 230 pounds heavier, keep the same E90 engine but minus the HP.

Both generations of the TSX came with a timing chain, not a timing belt. If I'm not mistaken the K-Series motors all come with a timing chain.

Now as for the J-series, I know have a timing belt.

We've got an ILX as a car that my girl uses to park at the subway. It's a good day to day car. It's no super-high end vehicle but it's certainly a nice car with a premium feel. It's much much better than many things out there.

Re: 2nd gen TSX being uglier than 1st gens? I've parked my 2nd gen with aerokit and wheels beside several first gens -- I have no idea what you're talking about. I've gotten all sorts of thumbs up and props from people -- there's no way a base 1st gen gets that type of love... just saying.

I actually parked between 2 modded 1G TSXs at a park a couple weekends ago, and both owners happened to have been there when I was leaving and they definitely showed a lot of love for my car. I'm sure I'm mad biased but when I was walking back, I definitely loved the look of my car a lot more than theirs, and I think they probably spent at least a few thousand bucks on theirs more than I did on mine.

^ I guess it really helps that you have a 2015 TSX Type R.

Its all preference but a properly modded 1st gen looks way cleaner than any modded 2nd gen that I've seen.

The 2nd gen is bloated (200 pounds heavier) with numb steering, where as the 1st gen is the opposite of that.

While I do agree that the 1G TSX is a better platform for performance as it is lighter and has more aftermarket support, I feel like it is certainly dated aesthetically. It's nice, but it's old, much like how I feel about the 3G TL. Not knocking either of these cars, just my opinion on that front. I love both those cars.

Yeah our 2G TSX is a bit more of a pig, but for me it looks (at least a bit) more aesthetically pleasing and more modern than the 1G TSX (this is wildly subjective, obviously). When I shopped for my TSX, I wasn't in for a high performance, super lightweight platform vehicle, so I don't care too much about the weight. I have a 2013, so its steering has improved over the prefacelifted 2G, which I find quite responsive. I lowered her on TEIN Street Basis coilovers and she takes hard turns just fine

And I have to disagree about a properly modded 1G being far cleaner than any 2G. Just check out savclaude's TSX. It's way clean, and no 1G "looks way cleaner" than this guy's car. Maybe some by a bit, but not by a stretch.

Just my

can't beat the power you get from a 2nd gen with J35 than on a 1st gen... feels like a baby TL lol

Wait dont you drive a 2nd gen tsx lol?? youre right about it being a preference because i see the 1st gen as being super outdated. seriously i cant tell you the difference between a 1st gen and a 6th gen accord side by side, let alone notice it while its driving past me.
