why would anyone buy a 2013 TSX over the 2013 Accord?

the EX-L comes in around $27k and has way more bells and whistles over a TSX, doesn't it? as a 2010 TSX owner, i don't think the Accord is more or less attractive, but i honestly don't think either car is really a looker.
forward collision warning, lane departure warning, rear view camera, smart/keyless entry...what else? detractors would probably include CVT (unless you're into that sort of thing, but i have a manual transmission), macpherson struts, uglier wheels, a 3/36k warranty instead of 4/50k, and the fact that it's "only" a Honda and not an Acura...though that's probably not a good enough reason.

hehe. i posted something similar in another thread.
its a tough call.
had i waited, i probably would have gotten a loaded accord.
its got much better gadgets and you get so much more for the price.
i think the highest end Accord runs like 33 and a base TSX is at around the same price.
the accord wins bargain wise.
its a tough call. i think the deciding factor is with acura, you get higher end service and you wont see them EVERYWHERE in a year like you will the accord.
i mean, the TSX is pretty common but not nearly as common as accords.
i wouldnt mind a HFP coupe.
those are pretty.
im still waiting to see what the TLX looks like.
after seeing the accord, i can honestly say im excited about it.

Certainly the Accord is a better value. But if it was always just about value, no one would be buying BMW's, Audis, Aston Martins, Ferraris, etc. Theres a market for the Accord. And theres a market for the TSX. But yea, the way you put, branding is the only real difference but people are willing to pay for a name. Not judging anybody, just sayin that brand does matter to people. If it didnt, we would all be driving Kia's, Fords, and Hyundais, cause value wise those things are ridiculous.

the HFP is soooo tight
http://automobiles.honda.com/accord-...cessories.aspx
but ill bet you could get better aero pieces aftermarket for a fraction of the price.
the only other thing is the 19in wheels and 15mm lowered suspension.
i think aside from that, you get different colored floor mats, and red accent lighting.
not much to it really.
aftermarket modding would be cheaper but not a bad option if you wanna keep your warranty and have a more aggressive looking accord.

I also posted in another thread. Double wishbone front suspension is one reason, having been built in Japan is another. Smaller size may appeal to some as well. But I do agree, the Accord is looking great.

so when the tlx comes out, who here would trade in their tsx for a tlx? assuming all the bells and whistles of the current gen accord are in the tlx with some little extras that we dont' know yet?
#14
+1 I guess i shouldve waited.....seeing as acura and honda always seems to lag behind and wait for other brands to show their cards then one up them....and the next gen tsx whether they call it a tsx or whatever....will be better then this one, so its a waiting game

cause i have owned an 2009 accord and my 2009 tsx its night and day differences even though the cars are virtually built from the same parts for the most part and its the quality and the ride of the car that make it worth more than a honda they don't put all that money into a luxury brand to have equal cars or the accord be better. the acura service is much much better than taking a accord to honda i got treated like an idiot at honda that apparently didn't know anything about cars were as acura has a more personal relationship and is more willing to go out of there way to help me and earn my repeat business. Also another factor to remember is that accord is cheaper than a tsx but the resale value is going to be horrible after a couple years we just sold my wife's 09 accord that i bought a year and a half ago and i was insulted at how much it devalued compared to the tsx. and rant complete there both cars but to me acura is there for a reason plain and simple.
#17
Forgot about the suspension change but still. Year for year, the accord is a better buy right now.
The tlx will be a different story though
#20
odus, i think the resale value for the accord comes after what was it...3 years or ownership or 5 years down the line. saw a chart of the value after 3 or 5 years and accord held the highest value after that amount of time in terms of resale. and yes i too have spent extended amounts of time in an 09 accord and some time in my 09 tsx before it got totaled and there is a world of difference in comfort and quality.
joeblow i'm with u on the shawd and 6 speed...i'm pretty sure if the tlx has shawd, i'll be upgrading after they work out the first year kinks.

The new Accord is more modern and a better value, but it won't necessarily have the same driving dynamics as the TSX, which is tuned more aggressively than the typical family sedan. Perhaps the Accord handles just as well, but I wouldn't assume it does just because it's new. I definitely want to test an Accord Sport with 6MT. I'm especially curious whether the additional torque in the Earth Dreams engine will make it feel punchier than the TSX's four cylinder.
And, of course, I'm even more curious about the TLX!

I wanna compare the hyundai to the acura tsx...I mean the hyundais got way more features n stuff... /sarcasm
Acura isn't as much of a value brand as Honda. Seriously, Acura needs to reposition itself from being just a small step up from Honda. I guess nobody does luxury like the Germans.

idk about that.
accord resale value does ok.
i sold my 04 V6 accord a few years ago and just leased a base accord because i needed some quick cash. i did zero down leasing and within a year, and a minor accident, i was dead even on trade in. i think i actually got some money back.
id say thats pretty good.

Had a 2007 Honda Accord Sedan Lx bought it for 21,500 out the door in 2007, owned it for three years and a half, 65k miles. In January of 2011 sold it traded it in for a 2011 Mazda3 (which I picked) for 21,500. They paid off the Accord since their operated by the same group and we didnt get anything for our trade ( we didnt negotiate either). They valued it at 11k at the time.
#33
Maybe they fixed this but I hated how the 07 accord felt so cheap, our Mazda3 is a cheaper car and feels much more solid then the that accord (I remember plastic everywhere and I hated how the door shut). Maybe it was just that generation but I still like the loaded Ex-Ls of that generation. I love the Tsx though I sit in it and I love the car as im listening to Trance.
P.s. I don't think it has anything to do with branding i think that 10k difference in pricing is because of a better car, now the car i love the W140 (92-99 s class) is very complex and it doesn't have all these gadgets but it has a vast majority of essentials that you don't need but it isn't things like a back up camera or blind spot assist. The w140 used cost 70k for a base model and 20k most likely went towards the Billion Mercedes spent in development and research Mercedes initialy put forth in the late 80's. You don't need all these gadgets but when you start depending on gadgets then when you want more and more (kind of how millionaire go bankrupt because when you get money you spend even more money).

i do agree with that ^^. accord feel cheaper.
im not sure what it is.. possibly not as much insulation in the cabin or something but it just doesnt feel as solid as a TSX.
my wife has a 2012 accord and the entire thing just feels cheap and plastic-ey.
the TSX feels solid and well built.
needless to say, she wants my tsx. lol.
i think well keep the accord for a year and either pick up a 2013 accord or a used RDX. she likes those .

Well my 2 cents worth is this: I've owned 10 Hondas in my lifetime. Great vehicles, well built, rare to have problems, good to great resale value, etc. Then one day a few yrs ago I drove my daughter's new TSX. I INSTANTLY knew I was NOT in a Honda car....but, Honda Corps luxury divisions Acura. It just "feels" better, in all aspects. I have had a '13 RDX since June. Had 3 previous CRV's. No comparison. We love the RDX. I am trading my '12 Accord Cpe, EX-L, V6 with Navi. It's white, tan interior, rear Honda fascia, etc. It's a very nice sport coupe. I can tell you I like driving the TSX, 4cyl...paddle shifted Special Edition more than my coupe.
I've owned so many cars. More money spent than I should have....but, I love cars. When you have owned so many different kinds of cars and SUV's you just KNOW when you are in something a little more special. The TSX will be my 61st vehicle since I was 16. 31 new ones.
There is a reason that Acura is the luxury division of the Honda Motor Corp. Their powertrain warranty is longer. There is also something a little different between the 190 hp 4 cyl. that's in the Accord Cpe...vs. the 201 hp TSX engine. The TSX is smoother, pulls hard, has a higher rpm limit, etc. Its probably the best 4 cyl engine I have ever owned or driven. I had an '08 Accord Cpe with the 190 hp 4 cyl. The TSX will run away from it.
The Acura's are just...a little better. Now the new Accords are not bad. I checked them out. Yes, they have a lot of "gizmos", but, that is not soley what attracts me to a vehicle. I think the new Accords are pretty nice cars. Many, along with me, believe that the Acura's are just a little better overall and their extra cost is justified, although the cost diff. is closing real fast!!
Don't know if this helps, but, it's based on my history of ownership and the fact I've been a car nut since about age 13. If I didn't own it, I've driven it. I will admit I haven't driven ALL cars. Not been in a Ferrari, Lambo, or those high enders. But, most cars up to around the $100,000 area.
For a somewhat compact 4 door, with a little class and high quality....and a high enjoyment and...fun factor for the Special Edition....it's hard to beat the TSX. IMHO.
Thanks guys and gals!! I'm proud to soon have 2 new Acuras in my garage. Some of you have been there long before me. "Weather" on the RDX side..mostly...is a big time Acura guy. Had the TSX, has a '13 RDX and an '11 or '12 TL. He's salivating now over the upcoming newly redesigned RLX. That's a LOT of car. He may need a chaffeur to drive him around. LOL!!
I'm with some of you...I'm real curious to see what the new TLX is like.
Crazy that Acura now will have all vehicle designations end in X. And many are not 4 wheel drivers. The X factor huh???

As everyone knows, SIZE MATTERS.
The Accord is nice, definitely, but it's designed specifically for large Americans or large families. I am allowed to say that, most of my family are large Americans and they love Accords and Camrys
The TSX is smaller and more intimate. To lots of drivers, that's important.
I think the TSX is a sweet spot in size. I wish Lexus made a TSX sized car. Love the new Lexus design language, but the IS range might as well be two seaters, and the ES/GS might as well come with chauffeurs, they are so big.

Can't wait to see what the TLX/RLX will look like. Pretty sure they'll look very nice.
The accord is nice I like it, but the TSX SE is what I'd choose. Both cars are true in Honda fashion: a lot of bang for your buck. The TSX isn't as much now, because it's at the end of its generation (but was when it debuted in '03 as and 04 and redesign for 09) and most of the competitors have did a redesign or an update. Actually it still is in many ways. The TLX will definitely kick it up a notch.

I own a 12 TSX Tech Package. On Monday, i decided to go look at the Accord Coupe v6 w/Nav. He let me test drive it, but for only a few blocks (probably because he knew i wasn't purchasing) The Accord was definitely nice, but once you've driven an Acura, you will notice a difference going back to honda.
Pros
-The coupe looks very good, specially in the Still night pearl color (Obviously can vary based on opinion)
-The tech is awesome, and i really liked the side view mirrors with camera. The Smart Entry was also very cool!
-The iPod control was better, and had a alphabetical search feature (So simple, i dont know why the TSX does not have that feature)
-The V6 was fast and had a very nice tone to it.
-The Seats were very comfy.
Cons
-The interior materials were certainly not the quality of the TSX, from the carpet, to the trim and dashboard. They weren't bad, but not the quality of the TSX (Acura V.S Honda) The seats were comfy, but only the front seats were perforated. The rear seats were non perf, and they felt very rubbery, could of used a lot of Vinyl? The Leather in the front seats was nice, but again, not as "supple" or nice feeling as the TSX.
- Only Power on the drivers side, manual passenger seat. The seats were also not powered for when you lean it forward for passengers to get in the rear. My 03 CL Had this feature, why does the accord still not have the feature in 2013?
- The Navi, while nice, felt a bit cumbersome to me, compared to the TSX. There were no controls for the I-MID on the Cluster on the steering wheel, just an analog dial next to the cluster. You could control from the Navi screen, but again felt cumbersome due to so many different menu screens to scroll through. There also seemed to be a lot of lag in the menus. These are probably first year problems, and will im guessing most likely be fixed in the MMC
- The Touchscreen was nice, but again felt laggy.
- Still no HID headlights. I liked the LED DRL Though. Maybe MMC Will offer the LED Headlights of the Accord Sedan Touring
Overall, you do get quite a bit for a 32K car. There are some First year bugs to be worked out, so we'll see what the MMC brings in a few years. You will also not get the quality of materials and craftsmanship the Acura brand brings. That is why you pay a premium for an Acura vehicle, over a Honda.
