Cool Where are all the 6-speeds?!

So I'm looking at replacing my 2002 325ci 5-speed with either another 3-series, an Audi A4 or an '11 TSX. I'm a former two-time Integra owner and thought they were awesome cars.

So in calling around looking for cars, its impossible to find any 6-speed TSXs. One dealer told me there are zero manual transmission TSXs in Pa, NJ or Delaware. No 2010s and no 2011s. Lots of Automatics. No sticks. At all. None.

This is a massive pain. Does anyone have any idea what's going on with the supply of these cars? I can't possibly be the only person who wants one.

As a side note, I stopped by a Honda dealer to ask about the Accord Ex V6 six-speed and the sales guy didn't even know it existed. The manager came out and said they just don't ever see these.

Is this a Honda/Acura thing or what?

The TSX comes in 6 speed but only with the 4 cylinder engine.

The Accord V6 is available in 6 speed but for the coupe only.

FWD.

If it were RWD, it would be heaven to the naysayers here on CarTalk

I would rather have the SH-AWD with the six speed. Docboy, I like your car.

Six-speeds are a niche and a very small amount were made.

They just started rolling out the '11 TSXs, so it doesn't surprise me that no 6 speeds are available yet. But they should be soon. These cars are shipped from Japan, so it's going to take awhile to build up stock of the new '11 model. Give it a couple of more months and you'll see them. Most dealers that have them on the lot will be begging you to take one because they don't sell. 95% of all TSXs sold in the U.S. are autos.

I have a '09 manual and will be looking at the '11 when my lease is up in May. If they don't have any manuals available by then, I'll be leaving the Acura brand. For me no stick, no sale.

This seems late for the rollout of the '11s. There are so many automatic 10's on the lots leftover that I suspect Acura is intentionally holding back on supply until the 10s are exhausted.

I completely agree. That's why I'm back looking at BMW and Audi. I can easily get a stick in either of those cars.

I don't think they made any 6-speeds in the first few batches of 2011s. Since the first order only just arrived, I'd guess it would be February at the earliest if they build any in January. Acura will often constrain orders on low volume models, probably so they can run the assembly line to make a 'full' production run of manuals (for example) before switching back to autos.

Six-speed TSX's are very rare. I believe there's a 2010 for sale at Nalley Acura in Atlanta (where I got mine). I thought my salesman, Damien, was pretty good.

i believe there are a handful of 6 speed manuals at the dealers in the DC/MD/VA area...wouldn't hurt to try. i would probably recommend chevy chase acura for service (but not best price)...otherwise, rosenthal is decent. radley and pohanka are hit or miss.

When I got mine in July 2008, almost every dealer had at least one or two 6 speeds in stock. I ended up getting it at Springfield Acura in NJ. Yes it is rare but its out there. Some dealers don't really bother searching for other dealers and just say that there are no manuals in the state. Happened to me at Bridgewater Acura (DO NOT GO THERE! They are plain rude liars!) No offense to anyone out there but don't get auto. 6 Speed manual is what makes TSX so great!

yeah they're rare. I ended up getting mine at pohanka in va in august. They had such a hard time selling my 6mt CBP with tech that I ended up getting it for 29K otd. You'll probably have to wait a while for the 2011 to roll in.

I just bought a 2011 6-speed from Ed Voyles Acura near Atlanta, so they do exist.

However, it was the only one they had, it was fresh off the truck like the day before AND the salesman there said they were indeed VERY rare at the moment.

They had like 10 different 2011 automatics on the loot and only 1 6-speed manual.

I'm going to want a 6-speed tech and those are the rarest of all TSX models because expensive manuals tend to be the hardest sale of all in the U.S. You'll find them plentiful in BMWs and Audis because more serious driving enthusiasts tend to gravitate to those brands, whereas I suspect most TSX and Lexus IS buyers are shopping for a good commuting car. If you think the TSX is hard to find in a manual, try finding a Lexus IS with one. My frustration with that search is how I ended up in a TSX in the first place.

Got mine at DCH Montclair Acura in Verona, NJ. When I got mine they had a stick on the lot, but not in the color I wanted. They would have rather I taken what they had on the lot, but they went and found the color I wanted. I'll be going back to them if I decide to stay with the Acura brand.

Got my 6spd in Oct 2010. They offered me pretty much every color combo except the one i wanted...lol go figure. I wanted white on black 6spd, ended up getting the palidium with black interior and 6spd. Mine came out of NJ, and from my understanding there were tons of them just chillin in the lots. It all depends if your dealer isn't a lazy prick and is willing to search for you.

Keep in-mind you can also check out the inventory of dealers in the area too, i did that with my last car (6spd altima). Dealer said there were none around, until i told him the exact dealer, location, and number to call and what do you know, i had the car i wanted 2 days later...

I didn't have a problem finding my 2010 6sp w/tech. Then again, I wasn't looking for one to begin with. Upgraded from a 2006 6sp w/nav.

Fortunately, both are pwp w/ebony interior.

So 6sp's do exist, good luck and I hope you can locate one soon

If you're looking in the PA/DE area, try Piazza Acura of West Chester. They usually stock at least one with MT, and found me a 2010 base MT in the color I wanted. It's a good dealership. When I was looking in October, 2010, it seemed about half the dealers in the Philly metro area had MT in stock, and usually only one.

I think the percentage varies by region. In New England, I'd expect more manuals on the lots, but who knows?

By the way, it isn't much better with BMW, despite its reputation. I couldn't find a single new 328i manual over three dealerships in the Philly area in the fall of 2010. The only manuals at all were a CPO 2009 X-Drive 328i (total dog), CPO 2007 328i (didn't drive), and a new 335i with Sport Package (incredible). (I was only looking at sedans, so perhaps they had some coupes with MT, but I don't think so b/c I would have tested one.) Most buy those cars for image and/or luxury, which is reflected in the dealer stock. The enthusiasts order theirs spec'd to their desires.

Go with the Audi. My 2010 TSX has more squeaks, creeks, and groans than my 4 year old Evo did when I sold it. Very disappointing.

I found five '11s within 35 miles of me (Philly). It doesn't indicate if they are Base or Tech at this time, though. 3 Crystal Black Pearls, 1 Forged Silver Metallic and 1 Graphite Luster Metallic.

A small part of me wants to trade my '09 in for a 6-speed or a V6. Or sell mine outright, bank the money and lease my next ride. Prior to my TSX I had my daily driver for 11+ years and always planned to keep cars until the wheels fall off, but as I get older, now I think I got the new car bug since buying my TSX 2 years ago.
