im struggling to stay above 20 with 50/50 city and highway
FWIW my odo is only at ~450
i got 23.5 on my tank from the dealer, and now my MID is reading 22.8 with 93 octane from mobil

I definately appreciate the info in this thread, though I would hope that more of you will respond with the transmission you have in your car. If I were to purchase a TSX it would be a 6MT and only a 6MT. Which I guess due to gearing gets worse mileage than the auto...bad decision on acura's part I guess.

This is a bit of a guess since the dealer filled it up at unknown mileage. I filled up mid-tank to check the calibration of the Trip A meter.

330 miles on the ODO, still on the first tank of gas. MPG is dismal at 22, but the car still has to break in. I have a lot of city / stop-and-go driving. I'll report back again when I have more miles on the car.
Also, YES on the Chevron gasoline, my last TSX ran great with it all the way until I sold it.

Can't wait to drive
I'm getting a bit better on this 3rd tank, about 26 mpg now, but I have a lot more hwy mileage added last weekend, that could be why. I have about 930 miles on the ODO. I'd say 50/50 city/hwy

After 5000 or so miles on the ODO, I finally took a long road trip and was quite impressed by the MPG. I got from near Sacramento CA just about to Salem OR on one tank (~520 miles) at 35MPG on the MID. Not too bad since there are 4,300 foot mountains to go over on the way. Not too much traffic so I was on cruise control for most of the drive. 5AT by the way.

With the ridiculously high gas prices these days it'd be good to hear about what kind of real-world mileage 2nd gen owners are getting. Please try to include % of city/hwy and if it's a 5AT or 6MT.

man, i think i've had to refuel this car 4 times since i bought it 2 months ago. i refuel every 2-3 weeks. it's rediculous how much money i've already saved compared to my '05 gas guzzling TL.

TSX-rated MPG
I drove from San Diego to the Grand Canyon South Rim. 91 Octane in the tank, 4 occupants in the vehicle, trunk full of crap, and I got 31.7 MPG. 6MT

Needless to say, I'm VERY SATISFIED with my purchase, especially coming from a V6 sedan.
Specs:
- 1200 Miles on Odometer
- 6MT Tranny
- 60% Highway/40% City Driving
- Moderate speed driving (not >80mph on hwy)
- Fill up on 93 Premium Octane (QT Gas Station)
- Averaging 26mpg according to car comp
Needless to say, I'm VERY SATISFIED with my purchase, especially coming from a V6 sedan.

My last fill-up I got around 28.2 mpg using 91 Chevron driving 90%highway / 10%city.
Question: How much of the gas tank is "reserved"? I've noticed that when I hit around 440 miles, I know it's around the 16.5 - 17 gallons used mark based on my previous mpg. At that point the "Range" shows "0". I'm sure most cars have a "reserve" or so, but I didn't think it would be 1.5-2 gallons. Basically I'm having to guess how many miles I really have before I'm empty.

It's not a great idea to try and run the tank that close to empty. The fuel pump is cooled by the fuel it is submerged in. If you make a regular habit of running that close to low (our tank is 17 gallons IIRC) you are definitely increasing the likelihood of the pump failing at some point.

I was just doing that for future reference, I usually have at least 30 miles on the range left before I refill. I wanted to know an estimate of how many miles left I really have in the event I somehow get to the point my range shows up at "0".

From what I've seen, the gauge bottoms out with somewhere between 1.5 and 2 gallons left. I would have to think that's about the point where the range hits zero. Not having a navi I can't say for sure.

I took my car in recently cause I was only getting 18 and change... they said everything was normal... but 14mpg?! Wow, if you aren't driving like a maniac I would take it in asap...
NYC gas pumps = 87, 89, and 93 mostly.
I usually fill up after a few miles from the E light, and consistently put in somewhere between 15.9 and 16.0 gallons. Our tanks hold 18.5, so my guess would be 2.5 gal in the reserve.

Hmm, I've only seen 87, 89 and 91 in my part of the country.
I'm creeping up on 13,000 miles. On highway trips I have been able to average up to 33 mpg. Mostly city driving I usually get 25-26 mpg.

On the highway, it easily gets 33+, but even if i'm doing 100% city, I should be getting 20/21 right? I don't idle, I don't have a lead foot, I keep my car light, I coast to red lights, I keep my tires inflated, I keep my filters/shit clean... but i'm only getting 18 and change.

One thing I noticed was how much even 15% throttle effects mpg.. lately as soon as I hit ~-5mph within the speed limit on local roads, I immediately get off the throttle and then just let the weight of my foot apply pressure. Keeps my speed constant and the real time mpg gauge shows 30+ all the time.
(And if anyone is wondering, it's 18 and change after i do the actual calculation, not what the MID tells me)

You dont have that many miles left after you hit Zero. Once i drove couple of miles beyond Zero and my tank took 18.2 gallons. Its better to fill it up at range 20 or 30. When 1.5 gallons are in tank.

I filled up today and the MID said 20 miles range. I put in 16.7 gallons. I typically refill before the light comes on though.
I'm sure the variations are due to how the average mpg is calculated. There might me something in the manual about that. Anyway, I've heard Lukeatron's comment before and I tend to be careful about it. Dropping the fuel tank in a car just to replace the fuel pump is such a stupid design.

Meh, the majority of manufactures build them like that anymore. I believe the thinking is that the fuel pump should essentially be a non-service item. It's not like the cars of yore where you could plan on replacing the pump as part of the scheduled maintenance.

I'm reporting back again. I still drive mosty city (aka stop-and-go traffic on Los Angeles freeways) and my last tank and overall MPG is 23.5
I have about 3300 miles on my car. Is it still too soon to see improvements in mileage? I remember my old 6MT had better mileage than this.
I also ran my car pretty low last time because I didn't have time to fill it up earlier. 17.5 gallon fill up @ $2.48 is pricey!

Hmmm... I live in Canada and sadly, I can't find any gas pumps that offer anything higher than 91. That being said, I have not noticed any engine knocking... yet. I am a little worried, though. I took my concerns to my mechanic who told me it should not affect the car at all, whether I feel up with 'premium' or basic grade fuel. He also said that the only short-term oddities I might notice by using basic grade is the period of time that the car's computer takes to adjust to the lower-grade gas. The entire time I was nodding and smiling and thinking "oh my god... I need a new mechanic". Well, then again, that's just my opinion... am I right, or is my so-called mechanic just plain nuts?
