Wet Sanding my car

I've decided to wet sand my car. Why? Because I can. I will be picking up everything I need today but don't know exactly when I will start it. The whole process from start to finish takes anywhere from 24 to 36 hours so it's a matter of having my car undriveable for that length of time.

I will take photos as I go along and post them in the Photography section of the forum.

Good luck! I'm looking to wet sand a spot on my rear bumper that was egged last summer. I filled in as much of the tiny chips with touch up paint but I need to smooth it down now so its not all bloby.

Are you trying to rid the slight orange peel look from OEM paint jobs?

I am not sure why you are doing the entire car, isn't it new paint?

Very cool. It is *monster* back-breaking work but will be stunning afterwards.

Yes it is the orange peel I am going to get rid of and yes it is new paint. The only cars I've seen without orange peel were Rolls and Bentley when they used Enamel paint. Unfortunately orange peel is pretty common. Even Ferraries have it. Hence the reason I wet sanded a black 348 Ferrari a while back.

Your not kidding. It took me 82 hours to do the black Ferrari I did. That was a nerve wrecker for sure...but you are rigth, it will look amazing. The car isn't too bad so it should require a minimal amount of sanding.

It'll look sexy afterwards, but I doubt you'll be able to get it all out. Most of the peel happens because they don't sand the base coat before applying the clear, and obviously you don't plan on sanding through the clear
