TSX Wheels - plus 1 or plus 2
Hi everyone, I'm new the group and wanted to get your feedback on wheel replacement:
My TSX wagon comes with the 17 inch wheels with 225-50 tires that I want to replace. Should I go with 18 inch (with 225-45 tires) or 19 inch (with 225-40 tires) wheels while factoring looks and performance?
Thanks for your input!

It's mostly personal preference. Have you found rims you like that are available in both 18" and 19" sizes? 19" tires are in general going to be more expensive than 18." If you are planning on keeping close to stock diameter and/or circumference you are going to have to go to a lower profile tire. This in turn is going to transmit more road irregularities and a harsher ride. The tradeoff is better handling.
What are your priorities? What's your budget?

Thanks. My priorities is ride quality and looks, and not so much handling since it's a station wagon. I see the question is mostly how will the look and ride be different for a 40 or 45 series tire. yes/no?

Everyday I'm rofling
Ride quality: go with 16"
Looks: go with 19"
In all seriousness though I have some input. Aftermarket 18s look fine as long as you're low enough. The wheels and tires will both be cheaper. My oem (v6) tires have a 45 sidewall vs my aftermarket tires 40 sidewall. I can definitely feel a difference between them but it could also be attributed to 18 vs 19 wheel and they are also different brand tires.

Personal preference. I like +1. Looks better without sacrificing too much ride quality.
Plus tire availability/cost.
Plus total wheel & tire mass tradeoff.

Based on your response and my experience with 18s, I would suggest looking at an 18" tire and rim set up. Again a lot is personal preference so start looking

I ran oem hfp pds10 245/45/19 last summer , really loved that set up ...way better handling , tires had 1maybe 2 season left so I sold that set up , I didn't want to fork out the money on new tires .!
This year I'm running oem Accord sport rims in 235/45/18
Same spec as V6 tsx. ....they look great and I got them for a good price ...

A 245/40 is taller than a 205/45.
I'm using 245/40/18 on my wagon. Type of tires makes a big difference. Mine are Conti DW's. I feel like they ride as soft...or softer than the 215/55/17 Blizzaks that the car uses for winter. Contis also ride better than the stock sized Michelins did.
You'd likely use a 225/40 or 235/40 for 19" wheels. Or 245/35, if such a size exists. There will be more harshness than a 245/40...if we're comparing apples to apples.
Use a suspension that damps better than stock, and you should be fine. The stock TSX suspension is fairly awful.

I think 19s are perfect given the shape of the big wagon body

I went +1 OEM 18's (V6 version) and they finished the vehicle without having to lower it. Stock was I was looking for though as I was having a hard time finding aftermarket wheels that were flattering on the wagon.
