TSX purchase, to be or not to be??

I have been interested in upgrading my 2006 TL to something newer for a while. Since I love Acura I wanted to either get a TL or a TSX. Since the TL exterior is hideous, I decided I am going to get a TSX. I have a dealership willing to sell me an 09' TSX-tech with 29000 miles on it for $25,000 out the door. That includes all the taxes, fees, etc. They are also going to pay off my 06' TL with 85000 miles on it, I owe 12,500 on it. Deal or No Deal?!?!?

What do you guys think?

If you want something with good efficiency & great road manners, this is a great car.

Coming from a TL, you're probably going to be disappointed with the lack of power.

I went to KBB.com and looked up an 06 TL with 85k miles on it and it and i would say they are not giving you a good deal on the trade. I think you should try and get 14 or more for it.

I dont think the 09 tech with 29k is such a great deal either IMO.

Surprisingly, I do not care about power at all. Do you think this is a good price? I think its pretty good considering its a tech with low miles.

Ya, I could of done something like that but I really want a tech. After I got my TL w/navi I never wanted anything different.

I have tried to sell it twice on Autotrader and I cannot get anyone to bite at all. It is very strange, I figured I could get about $15,000 or so for my car but I guess when it gets this many miles you can't get a lot for it. I actually have it on Autotrader again right now.

I could be wrong about the 09 tech, kbb says it could be as high as 28k selling which i think is insane. I purchased my 10 tech for 29,500 brand new.

Did you put anything down, or have a decent trade in? I know, I was shocked when I saw how high these cards hold their value. $29,500 for a 10' Tech is good, but just a little out of my price range.

I think you could do a little better. Remember, even though it's an 09, it was released 4/24/08, so there is more depreciation there than meets the eye, ya know?

Looking on KBB or MSN or any of those other sites say its around $29,000. Im paying $23,000 for the car, then taxes etc. put it right around $25,000 out the door.

new TSXs usually have great incentives and most of us paid around 29k (31k OTD) for brand new TECH models, so im not too thrilled with the deal you are getting. For a few more grand you could get a brand new one without any mile stigma...idk

Just looking at a couple of brand new techs I saw they were about $32k, so I was looking around $34-35k out the door. So I would be saving roughly $10k from the research that I have done. I really wanted to stay around the same payments as I had for my 06 TL, which was $360 a month.

Just a side note, I am getting free delivery for the vehicle. Also, lifetime powertrain warranty through the dealer I am buying from.

Which year TL were you looking at, because the new 2012 TL is closer in style to the new TSX.

And no deal on the '09 for $25,000, that's kind of ridiculous even if it's OTD. I think you should wait because the market sucks right now, or push a lil harder.

$25,000 means the car was 23,000 then taxes and such push it to 25k. I have been looking everywhere for the past 6 months or so and I cannot find anywhere with a better deal, not that I have found in central Florida.

Did you put anything down? How much are your payments a month if you don't mind me asking? I want to stay right around my current payments, I can't do that with that high of a price.

I put down $15K and my payment is roughly $290/mo for 5 years, though I plan to start double-paying when work (damn creative industry) picks up.

Being that your current car is worth a good amount you could probably secure the same or similar deal, just food for thought.

Well that would be why your car is so cheap then, lol. I have tried to sell my car multiple times, and as great as it is I cannot get anyone to bite. Im financing $25,245, I was thinking about dropping the $699 gap coverage (other thread) and putting down $2000. Then I am only at $22,700 out the door for an 09 TSX tech. That sounds pretty decent to me.

Thanks for all your comments on both my threads, I value your input.

Agree. Funny that a slight change to the front grille makes the car look totally different. I'm still not sold on the taillights, but all things considered, the 2012 TL is a significant improvement over the 2009-2011's

No offense, but having read this thread it seems to me like you'd be better off buying a new TSX, if your main concern is monthly payments. I am sure a dealer would be happy to work out the same monthly payment for you on a new TSX. As KillerG said, it would only be a few grand more, and you're stretching out your payments anyway, so...

Did you get your TL new? If so, that's another reason to get a new TSX. I mean, it's 2011, and you still owe 12k on a TL.

There is no dealership that I know that is going to let me pay $360 a month for a new TSX. I would have to be at 84 months or higher, that is just too much for me. If you find one that will let me buy a '11 TSX TECH for $380 a month let me know. No I bought my TL used in 08' for $22k I think.

Plus you will get a much better interest rate on a new one.

I see posts like this all the time on various forums and you really need to separate out your costs to determine if you are getting a good deal. What are they offering to sell the car for without various fees and add-ons? What are they offering for trade? What are the various fees, taxes, etc. and are they reasonable and accurate?

It is not fiscally responsible to just look at payment. Any dealer can get you a payment but what does it look like? Make sound financial decisions not emotional ones.

Buying a car is an emotional experience, you need to remove the emotion from the deal.

I agree, 100%. here are the legistics. 09 TSX tech 30,000 miles. $25k otd. Trade in $12,600 for my car. Lifetime powertrain warranty from the dealer on the car. They have me at 3.9% interest. Options that I am looking at:

$393 for 72 months
put 2k down $351 for 72 months
put 2k down $415 for 60 months.

Which one would you choose?

NONE. Dude, you're looking at a bum deal. I bought out my '09 off the lease with 19k on the odometer for $21.5k and got financing through my bank at 3.59% for 48 months.

Used car market is extremely inflated right now. I suggest buying new if you can...

you are also buying at a rough time because of the shortage, you might experience higher pricing because of that, used AND new.

Wait, so 84 is too long for you, but 72 is not? You're talking about financing a $30k car over 6 years. If you're going to do that, what does one extra year matter? I don't get it...

Most banks wont even do 84 months, also Im not financing 30k. At 2.49% I am just over 27k with interest and everything and that's if I keep it for 72 months. With the amount of miles I drive it will hold its value pretty good. It's interesting because I went to the thread of the members posting what they paid for their TSX Tech and almost none of them paid $25k otd. Everyone paid more than that. Yet it seems that everyone is telling me not to do the deal.

Has anyone bought a TSX recently? Im hoping to get 32,000 w/ tech, unfortunately I cant wait since I dont have a car and need a car before I start working.

Anyone have any suggestions for negotiating with the dealer considering the car shortage?

The best tactic is to wait, but if that's not in the cards for you, it comes down to just how bad you want the car. It may just be wiser to just step away. (How long can you possibly wait? One week? One month?)

Well I sign the deal tomorrow, here is the final word. 2009 TSX-tech, 30,000 miles, lifetime powertrain warranty from the dealer, gap insurance, getting it delivered to Orlando from dealership tomorrow, full tank of gas upon arrival, 2.49% apr, 0 down, $25k otd.

Thanks for everyone's input, I appreciate it. I will post pics once I get it.

I start work on the 13th of June. The dealer I talked to said the Internet price was 32900 before taxes. I would think an extra 900 off wouldn't be too hard to negotiate but again with the current market who knows. In the past month they have only sold 1 of the techs they had, and considering how the economy is doing they might be willing. I guess I'll find out soon enough when I get back from Europe.

That's actually a pretty decent deal! What color? Be sure to post them pics when you get them.
