TSX Drivetrain Distribution

Except for a few times (and at cruising speed), I haven't even clocked 4500 or 5000 rpms since I purchased the car in April.

Today coming out of a parking lot, I pulled out a little close to the car coming down the road, and I punch it to about 5000 rpms from a stop. During the turn, the outside front wheel broke loose and spun the tire. The left side was solid. I actually thought I might over correct into the opposing lane.

Is the power going to the right-side front wheel only?

Because open differential.

all of the above are correct

FWD exhibits torque steer, with open differential, only one wheel will get power with loss of traction

As you turned and applied power, load shifted from inside to outside front tire. With FWD, the drive wheels are now required to simultaneously turn and apply torque which results in loss of traction to the outside wheel due to the additional loading. The wheel begins to spin. Except for the limits on continued acceleration that it causes, the fact that the differential design is open is not of particular concern in this situation.

If he had an LSD, both wheels, or no wheels would have spun.

Agreed. Guess I didn't say what I actually meant very well. Certainly LSD would allow more torque to be transferred to the non-slipping inside wheel and in Professor's case the fact that the inside doesn't spin while the outside does is directly related to that fact that it is an OD. Just wanted to emphasize that the primary reason the outside wheel spun in the first place was more a function of the load shift and the fact that the drive-train is FWD.

One thing that's confusing is that a lot of times, the opposite happens. Load shifts to the outside, inside tire doesn't have any weight on it and spins coming out of a corner.

Maybe that's because of the characteristics of the tire?

I am looking into a LSD for the the 6 speed. I plan on actually pulling everything apart and trying it out after the new year.
