Is a TSX better than a RLX?
My sister's lease on her RL was up so she went to the dealer and drove the RLX. She thought it was very nice and comfy but less sporty than the RL - not that she thought the RL was sporty.
The dealer then suggested the TL as they had some great deals but she thought it was very heavy with disconnected steering.
She drove the TSX and loved it. The only thing she said was missing was keyless start - women and bottomless purses.
Last night she drove out with a Milano red TSX tech. She loves it and thinks it is far better than her RL - easier to drive and she says it feels pretty zippy around town.

True, I guess it all depends on what you want. I personally think the TSX is the best looking car in Acura's lineup. I am bias though because I drive a Special Edition. Best car I've ever had.

I like the way 3G TL looks still, maybe even more than my TSX.

I think the outgoing MDX and the TSX look the best. The MDX has presence wheras the new one looks like a large RDX. Kinda reminds me of the small, medium, and large version that Audi likes to do.

It was an interesting conundrum. This was her second RL and she went in expecting to drive out with an RLX.
She apparently said to herself "self, why should I drive such a big car in town when I drive a smaller, easier to drive car? Especially when hubby has a big Jag for the really long trips?"
She is cursing the lack of the keyless start but figures that she'll get used to that.

Good choice (except for the red.... what was she thinking?
). That said, it seems like kind of an unfair comparison. The TSX and the RLX are two examples of very different markets (and my guess is that Acura would not be pleased to discover that someone is cross shopping the two cars). From what I've read (and seen), Honda has another totally underwhelming new car on it's hands with the RLX (the what, 4th in a row?). Dropping the super duper all wheel drive seems like another huge misstep; it was one of the few things that differentiated it from the others in it's target market, and it's return in a hybrid model seems risky to me.

My sister was prepared to buy the RLX. She could have leased virtually any car out there but wanted the Acura reliability of having a good shot of only having routine service visits.
Her response to the RLX was pretty unexpected given the fact that she really liked her last two RLs.
While the RLX may have some nice technology, they can't really expect to compete with RWD or AWD luxury wars - P-AWS non-withstanding.
I know that Acura has jumped on the MPG bandwagon here but luxury car buyers aren't looking for that - the MB & BMW hybrids add power while adding a very minimal bump in mpg.

This was a very interesting experiment. My sister is pretty close to being car illiterate although she is extremely smart.
She knew nothing about the reputation of any of the cars and I didn't know she was going to the dealer so I couldn't even give her any advance info. She only knew that I liked my car but she didn't remember if it was a TSX or a TL.

She drove out after she made the deal and said to me "why does car buying need to be so difficult? These guys really try to screw the uninformed buyer."

Many a dealer has put their kids through college by screwing the uninformed buyer. That's why I continue to go to the same dealer, as they just give me their best deal and be done with it.
My sister is also very smart (doctor), but single and car-challenged. She is also not much of a negotiator. So, I will have to help her get a deal on a TLX this fall. At least, I think that is when the new TLs are coming, right? She is on her 3rd TL now, all with cars I helped her negotiate.

Three Wheelin'
Speaking of forgetting to carry the 1, the dealership "made an error" by $4000 in their favor and she would have never caught it had I not explained to her to focus on the total price of the car rather than monthly payments.

It was the closest one to my house and it wasn't Chevy Chase.
The veteran senior salesman we worked with played the usual "I don't really know how these numbers work but I'll try to explain it from this sheet here" game to remove all blame from himself.
As it was, my sister got a good deal but the dealership still stands to make a few grand on her RL - if they can find someone to buy it.

Ok. I just took a good look at the RLX while waiting for my oil change and I am impressed with this car. I think it looks fantastic in person....not so much in pictures.

This may be indicative of how the RLX will be viewed by customers.

Itz JDM y0!
I'm not sure if the TSX is better then the RLX.. But if I had the choice between the two I wouldn't pick either. TSX is one of the best cars for around 30k, RLX is not very competitive in it's class (around 50k).
