TOV Video: 2010 Acura TSX V6 Dyno Test

The 2010 TSX feels pretty quick on the street, and a quick look at the dyno plot below explains why. The torque curve is as flat as we've come to expect from J-series V6s and it pulls hard right to the fuel cutoff (which appears to cut in at around 7200rpm). This car would be ferocious with a 6MT.

WTH happened to my garage
I bet that thing is a lot of fun. Why do I always want what they don't produce?

Looks like the motor is putting out a fair amount less than the TL-S motor, even when you take into account the larger power loss for the automatic transmission.
I am surprised that the fuel cut-off is right at 7200 because on the TL-S, it was actually more like 7300 to 7350, with redline set at 7200.

At 20% drivetrain loss, given the automatic transmission, the motor is putting out about 290 HP.
The TL-S, with 6MT appears to have the motor putting out about 297 HP (assuming a 15% drivetrain loss). With the automatic, that would be about 237 HP at the wheels, which I think is consistent with what TOV expected given the numbers they saw with the 6MT.
And since this is the same dyno (though not sure the numbers are adjusted for SAE norms), a 5 whp loss on the same motor, seems pretty significant to me, especially considering the car weighs about the same as the TL-S.

Three Wheelin'
its still a boost compared to the I4, but those figures would probably be similar to a I4 TSX with a supercharger...only with a cool whining sound. I probably be happy to have a V6 auto since right now I have a I4 auto, sigh...

I'll take option B.

Good numbers and super flat torque curve. Too bad I will never buy it with a crappy slush box. I am still holding off (high hopes) for a SH-AWD 6mt V6. One can dream...
