thicker exterior glass and newly design windshied for 2011 TSX

I just learned 2011 Tsx was not only upgrade front grill, fog light and navi. They also try to reduce cabin noise and noise from beneath. According to TSX media newsroom, exterior glass is 4.0mm thick (previous is 3.1mm). They also upgrade floor carpet damping material to reduce noise from under. plus newly design windshield. I don't know how quiet 2011 TSx will be with those improvement? If those improvements are working, plus better Navi which making 2011 TSX more bang for the buck in compared to 09/10 models.

Um this new thicker 2011 windshield probably wouldn't have helped. If something hit your 2010 windshield hard enough/at the correct angle to crack it, the same thing would have happened to one equipped to the 2011 windshield. The change was made to the lamination for acoustic purposes, not necessarily increased safety or durability.

Anyway, there were indeed a bunch of minor, but nice, changes made to the 2011 that people have overlooked...

My person favorite is the new plateau honing process they use on the 2011 engine cylinders (the 2011 Accords also get this treatment). This machining change in addition to lower-viscosity oils in the engine and transmission improved the MPG rating. That's obvious. What is not obvious unless you read up on engine building is that plateau honing the cylinders creates an almost "ideal" match between the cylinder and the piston rings.

This obviously means that there is reduced friction, using less oil and fuel. But it also means, technically, that the engine does not need to be broken in. Now of course Honda/Acura still recommends a break-in process and I would follow it myself, but it's also nice to know the engine doesn't really "need" it due to the increased precision in the machining/finishing process. In terms of engine performance, there will likely be no real-world difference between the 2010 engine and the 2011 engine. But it's nice to know that theoretically, in some small and perhaps inconsequential way, the 2011 engine will (or should) over its lifetime "technically" run smoother longer, use less oil, and rev more freely.

Great....... even more weight. Honda used to pay close attention to curb weights, but with the more recent models, they seem to have joined the rest of America with perhaps viewing obesity as something to aspire to instead of something to avoid.

I have the '11 wagon, and I can tell you that the new sound insulation definitely works. There are comments on here from several '11 owners on how we were shocked at how quiet it is since Acura really didn't hit that point very hard in their marketing. I'd put it in the same class as my wife's 08 Leuxs LS for road noise isolation. It makes the ELS sound system sound even better with the lower noise floor.

I believe that the glass also has a new anti-IR layer for lower interior heat in the sun. It seems to be working, we'll have to wait for summer to be sure.

As for weight: yeah, that definitely cost something there. There's no such thing as a free lunch.

I actually stopped at my local dealer last Saturday to check out the '11 in the flesh. Definitely some nice upgrades in the interior. The new gunmetal metallic silver paint (whatever it's called, carbon I think?) is REALLY NICE. Also, leather stitching on the inside is nice, as is the dash finish. The backseats were definitely bigger and those air vents back there are a nice touch.

That being said, I still despise the pink tails, the uglier grille and fogs, and that stupid chrome trim along the trunk.

We just bought a base model 2011 tsx and found it to be very quiet inside. So far the only noise I hear while driving is the key fob rattling.

2011 quietness etc.

We have a 2011 TSX Tech we bought in late December. I have nothing to compare to on previous models, but it is definetely quiet. Our other car is an 07 Lexus ES350, and TSX is quieter. 07 Rides smoother but that's expected since TSX sportier etc.
Additional insualtion in floor as well (or so reports mentioned). As for added weight from one comment, MPG supposedly up some. We haven't had a trip yet (with this winter weather), but getting 25-26 in local stop/go and some driving up to 50mph or so. No complaints so far and that's in cold weather.

Going from a 2009 TSX to a 2011 TSX and saw minimal difference in perceived road noise. Did notice that all of my rattles and weird noise from the 2009 are gone and hope they stay away in the 2011!

Love my 11' TSX I bought this weekend and I have noticed the quiet cabin. So quiet that the only noise I notice is the keys clanging... I have also noticed the ride is a little stiff like a sports car.. reminds of the the 335i I used to have. It is great for people used to driving a german vehicle, but would not recommend it to someone who wants a soft ride that Lexus or a cadillac.

The cabin noise doesn't really bother me because I always drive with my music on. But the 2011 does have a couple nice feature I wished the 2010 had like the air vents in the back.

I love how people open their mouths without knowing any facts. 2010 and 2011 weigh the same. 3400 for the manual and 3470 for the automatic.

What about that anti-sound tech they have in our cars... Does the radio have to be on for that to work?

How about tire noise? My 2006 TSX had great tires except on certain grooved cement roads they were super loud. When I put different tires on, the noise went away. Any such noise on the 2011?

I stand corrected. But as was mentioned elsewhere, there's no free lunch; you guys believe what you want. And...... these kind of "refinements" are further evidence that Honda is determined to turn Acura into the best Buick built in Japan.

Interesting take. I, for one, am thrilled they are dialing down the road noise. Maybe I'm in the minority...

I think the "Noise-Cancellation" system is only incorporated into the V6 Models...

That's correct. However, I have read one review that suggests that the benefit is virtually indiscernible.

I am quite amazed at the level of quietness in my '11 Sports Wagon. A gigantic leap forward from my '05 TSX.

acura lent me a '11 tsx v6 when i took ny rdx in for maintainance. i was really pleased with the interior and build quality. i found it quieter than my rdx but not as quiet as my 03 TL with the exception of windnoise. Also the older tl has better ride quality and steering feel. i think all these minor upgrades by acura are a waste and they should instead focus on improving driving dynamics and efficiency. i mean hyundai is kicking their ass man! have u seen hyundais sales figures lately? i personally prefer a 2.0t sonata over the tsx, its cheaper more efficient and looks better. acura needs to design a new 2 liter turbo engine and mate it to the 6at with sh-awd. the k23 needs to be phased out due to its poor MPG. So ya make sh-awd standard with a new turbo 4 cylindar on the tsx, rdx & csx. reserve the j37 v6 for type-s models. turbocharging a tuned down k20 will be epic. just imagine a base tsx with sh-awd, k20 turbo and 6at! or pay 5000$ more and get a 3.7L V6 type-s sh-awd tsx. The TL can have a v6 and v8 making it comparable to the 5 series and infiniti M. the rl needs to die.

It's on all the time, radio on or off. If shuts off when any of the doors are opened. you can feel the speakers vibrate if you take the door panel off and close the door.

There is also a way to put the system in "test" mode. I am not sure how much quieter the inside of our cars are due to this.

^^sometimes if you cover the internal microphone(s) with your finger, you can hear the noise cancellation change it's output.

I guess the K24 doesn't need it on TSX. My 08 Accord EX-L/Navi had it. In fact all Accords with 190hp K24 has ANC due to added drone from the larger diameter exhaust piping. Shocks me the TSX wouldn't have this feature as a luxury item.

For about 15 bucks, I installed a 20 mm clear film over my 08 TSX fogs. Fingers crossed, but after 42 months, no cracks. You can buy them online cut to fit.
