Sympathy seeking thread - curbed my 2nd wheel tonight

First, your heart skips a beat as if someone sneaked up on you from behind and scared the crap out of you. Second, you get the sinking feeling in your stomach as the reality of the curbage sets in. Third, you walk out and take a look hoping that it didn't really happen and end up disappointing yourself. Fourth, it's anger at yourself for being such an idiot. Fifth, you tell yourself "aw, it's not so bad, it's a DD and it's bound to get curbed". Sixth, you get home and realize you've kept it mostly curbage free for 2+ years, so #5 is just a weak excuse to make yourself feel better. Seventh, you go on Acurazine and whine like a little baby. Eighth...

On a positive note, I finally got my license plate today. Don't need to have my rear-end looking weird anymore.

don't worry man, like you said its a DD, but if you really want, you can always get it repaired for probably less than 100 and get great result since its only a curb rash

i am so anal about curbs! i stay away from them! I dont want my new ride to have curb rash rims. I have always been this way. all my previous cars have been used or hand downs so they all have had curb rash. but the tsx is my first new car, and i intend to keep it clean and rash free! I actully have wipped the rims down everynight! LOL

On a serious note that graph actually depicts the stages of Depression...I thought it was quite fitting at this time.

Seriously war stories are key Mr. Oto, just say you were racing a GT-R and would have won had the other idiot driver not cut you off and scratched your rims. This all happened on a racetrack of course leave the street racing to F1SH and Modesto

MrOto...sucks man. I'm waiting for the wife to do the same here soon...it's just bound to happen.
I think it all falls into that "shit happens" column. Doesn't make it any easier to accept, but I'd rather drive and enjoy the car than leave it at home in a sterile bubble.

The wife picked up a pretty decent parking lot ding early in Aug (less than 7 weeks into ownership). Passenger side rear door about 3" down from the body line right in the middle of the panel. 3 nice scratch marks within a 1.5" diameter. I was pissed at first, but what can I do really? Went down into the basecoat, so filled it with a little CBP touch up, and went about my day. Again, shit happens.

Sorry to hear of the curb rash though, especially on your wheels. Too damn attractive to get all marked up...kinda like a hot chick with butter face.

Step by step of emotions we all go through when not only curbing happens but just ANYTHING that happens to our cars that's our fault. Whenever I do something to the car I'm always super angry at myself...if it was some random crap that happened I wouldn't be as pissed as I'd adopt the "shit happens" attitude but since I know it's my fault...it's twice as shitty. I feel for you MrOto.

Lol at F1sh and modesto...

^s40, I would hit the Thanks button for your post but it doesn't seem appropriate considering you had it way worse than I. Hopefully your car is back to 100%.

Today I found the right side mirror has white scratches on my car. And almost a year ago found a cut/gash in the sidewall of the right rear tire, no clue how it got there.

I don't. It keeps bugging me for days on end. Even now whenever I see the little stuff that I did to my car I'm just like at myself. It's definitely not as bad as when it first happens but still. I get sad...maybe I'm too emotional? To be fair, I only get sad when I see the scratches or whatever. If I don't I'm fine.

Damn it I'm thinking about it now and !!

The wife has a Odyssey Touring, we got brand new Michelin PAX run flat tires & an alignment ($1,500) then immediately took the kids to the pediatrician for their checkup & she whammied the RF into a curb in the parking lot. Tire...fecked. Alignment...fecked.

<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<< That's when she took this pic.

Friend of mine, bought 6 SSR competitions. Initially 4, then 1, (curbed) and another (bent).

Then, he bought 7 08 TL-S A Specs, 4, 1 (curbed) 1, (bent) 1, dropped the wheel on it's face while installing it.

SO...it can always be worse.

week 1... of owning my 2011, a truck is spewing rocks all over the highway and mars up my windshield

week 2... I park so close to the curb that the wheels are touching the sidewalk, put a small curb mark in one wheel, surprised i didn't mess them more...oh well they will soon be winter wheels

week 3 someone at work scratches my rear bumper and doesnt leave a note.
about a 3 inch long mark, it's new paint and its still soft i guess

@MrOtocinclus - I can feel your pain, I got a little curb rash (also a GTC01) on my right rear thanks to a low curb in my apartment complex. I now take that turn like an 18 wheeler. lol!

@Mr. NC - Seriously laughed out loud to the last part of your post!

@kostantinos - Acura paint is ALWAYS soft sadly.

Matt

Self inflicted post wound, nice play. Seriously though, Spray Paint is stronger to real world than Acura paint.. wtf is wrong here.

I did the same thing the day I got back from deployment. I took out both wheels though. Coming around a curb and I forgot the car seems centered to the left since I always hugged right. So yeah. I hit the curb but couldn't believe it actually happened. Sucked. Anywho. Life goes on.

Sorry to hear about the rash. I've done that and your analysis sounds dead on to me. I always place a lot of emphasis on item #4 because you know that you let your guard down.

If the damage is relatively minor you can fix it up yourself. You certainly can't make it like new but you can protect it so the clear coat lacquer doesn't peal and continue to make it look worse than it is. I use a Dremel tool with a fine grit drum attachment and grind it down smooth. Be careful doing this 'cause the metal is soft and will grind off surprisingly easy. Then you get a can of clear coat, spray a little in the cap, and dab it on the sore feathering it in to the surrounding clear coat with a small paint brush.
