Stock Tires Suck!

Only gripe I have with my new TSX is that the Stock tires suck so bad. I guess this what happens when you are used to Potenza G019's for last 5 years. Car has no grip on wet pavement under medium acceleration.

Works fine for me in Oregon, home of drizzle and slimy roads that haven't been repaved in a while.

Define 'medium acceleration'

Try coming from Yokohama Advan A048s... Went from sticky and wear-out-fast to hard and last-forever.

agreed. the tires are simply awful in anything other than absolutely dry conditions. starting out from a stop, cornering, anything in the rain is just crap. i for one cannot wait until my fronts are toast so i can buy some decent tires.

also, the wear rate isn't that great either. my rears have very little tread left and i'm only at about 35,000 miles (i rotate).

I never keep a stock tire on any new car - however the Michelins were rated higher than most - running Goodyear Assurance Tripletreads. They are noisier than the Michs but they do have some bite to them - especially when wet.

My stock tires felt amazing. Lasted me forever too, around 60k miles. I am now running Conti ExtremeContact DWS. These are pretty amazing as well, and they fucking last forever goddamn, i have a set of wheels with hankook ventus v12 on them and the only thing keeping me from install are my relatively new tires on the stockies -_-

if you live in a sunny climate like California or Texas, you should check out the Nitto NT05's

^ I had summer tires on my last car too. Once you break traction, especially on a wet road, that's it. Physics is hard to defeat.

The V6 TSX should have Michi Primacy HP's, as is standard on ours and they're brilliant!

Stock tires are often picked for overall fuel economy / contract price.
That being said if you are are into special performance or in a specific weather area of country {snow, ice, wet, dry} you may do better w/ another tire.

I am in an all season area and find my stock Michs to be fine.

Tires are ok, but they don't inspire any confidence in wet(even dry) conditions. I guess this what you get when you go from a car lowered, and with great set of tires to a stock car. Although the car is nice, it needs some work for sure.

If you think these tires suck in the rain, try them in the snow...lol, never doing that again.

The stock tires are biased for rolling resistance. Which usually means medicore rain performance, TERRIBLE snow performance (they get too hard at low temperatures for proper grip) but they general wear well.

Went to visit a friend in Birmingham, AL a couple Thanksgivings ago. It's a crazy hilly area, wish I had a pic their driveway was easly a 45 degree angle for 50 yards. Got almost to the top with my 6MT, in the rain, then the last 50 feet or so, the TCS was going crazy trying to get traction. Thought we were gonna die.

1. rofl @ nam

2. got caught out in a blizzard once, TCS went haywire anytime i stopped or started, thought id die, got to my car and switched into AWD car, felt like a world of difference

Michelin, btw, does make some awesome tires, but the MXM4 are definitely not their best effort, i know some of the 4GTL guys swear by the pilot sport A/S

They'll alright I guess. It's pretty easy to loose traction with moderate acceleration from a stop though. Quality summer tires are on my to do list in the near future since I live in texas and don't really have to deal with snow/cold.

The only time I've lost traction is when turning right from a stop in wet conditions. I guess the added weight of the V6 helps.

I agree with you here! I have had great luck with mine after 15K. Still look to have half tread left....but what can you expect with a "sport" tire??

I think they are a pretty good tire and have had them on 2 new cars now. Tire Rack and DT give pretty good reviews for them as well.
And starting in MY 11 I think Michelin now gives a mileage warranty on oem tires--ours have 50,000 mi.
So if they are wearing poorly go to a tire shop and have them prorate for a new tire.

I had the pilots on my civic si and still thought they weren't great in terms of a/s performance (they handled well in dry weather)...when I switched to the toyo proxy 4s, I had better a/s performance, snow was nothing, wet traction was a tad bit worse, dry traction was better, but the tires were softer which meant they would roll a bit under heavy cornering....but the ride was smoother.

As with many OTS items on any car, the manufacturer needs to walk a fine line to satisfy the different customer demographics.

In this case, the manufacturer chose an all-season tire. As we all know, an all-season is, by definition, a compromise and doesn't do anything particularly well but can be used rear round.

If the manufacturer had fitted summer tires (probably better suited for the car) then there would be complaints about non-existent winter driving.

The average consumer will be very happy with the tires fitted to the car while the enthusiast should fit a tire of their choice and sell the OE tires.

Well said. I'm in the tire/service bizz and couldn't have put it better. I handle most of our come-backs and complaints with tires and alignment. Thus my opinion on what a good tire is will be from a somewhat different perspective. It must be extremely round with minimal force variation around it. It must balance well and stay that way. It should resist irregular wear, cupping and flat spotting. It must NOT cause directional steering pulls. Michelin tires usually meet these criteria and the HX MXM4 is right at the top of my list of no-hassle tires. And no, I don't work for Michelin or a Michelin dealer. Sure, people can have problems with any tire but it's very rare with an HX MXM4. Extreme lack of rotation, bad alignment or road damage are by far the leading cause of early death for these tires.

had excellent luck with the OEM Michelin tires-lasted almost 74,000 miles-they all measured 4/32 when I replaced them with Yokohama Avid 4vs tires. I was originally planning to keep the tsx only another year but changed my mind. If I had known that I would have bought Michelin again. The Yoko's have almost 61,000 miles. I get them rotated and balanced every 6,000 miles and check the tire pressure regularly.

Which tire do you like better? Any big noticeable difference between the Michelin and the Yokohama?

I actually prefer the Michelin tires but they cost more than the Yokohama's. For the price the Yoko's have been good. They are lasting a lot longer than we thought they would.

I'm fine with the stocks. I'd get a nice performance set, but where I live, potholes and winter pretty much dictate that that is a bad idea.

Anyhow, survived two winters with them. And by winters, I mean winters. None of that silly seattle stuff. We get foot easily and minus 40 temps. No such things as snow days around here.
But our city does a decent job of sending out the snowplows right after. Probably have about 60 of em on call to get the roads done.

If anything, I'd need to invest in some winters. But they're tolerable. My winter performance with stocks have about the same results as a RWD beamer, with winters, trying to start from a deadstop on slick roads...
