Still the ugliest grill/front fascia???
Hi everyone,
I know that when the TSX came out last spring, there was a tremendous bashing on the plenum grill and certainly don't want to re-open the debate. That being said, I think alot of people have gotten used to it and some even really appreciate it.
Now if some of you have seen the 2010 Mazda 3 front fascia, aren't you glad Acura didn't go that route!! I think alot of you will not be so hard on the new plenum grill from now on, Acura has now been dethrowned of the ugliest front fascia by Mazda
And while I am slightly off topic, I am noticing that Ford Taurus OHP for 2010 is going to be a sharp car and either I am getting old or blind but I am even liking what GM is proposing for the Buick LaCrosse....Seems that the design teams for the North American co are waking up

sorry, but no matter what other companies do, I will always see the
2nd gen tsx, the 4th gen tl, etc. as ugly and terrible.
I've thought so since day one and never changed my mind. things don't "grow"
on me at all. not even close.
yes, Mazda's new smile is pretty ugly, but the TL really takes the cake.
and as far as I'm concerned the TSX and the RL are right behind it.

However, once paintmatched, I think the grill looks ENTIRELY different and actually better than that of the 1st gen's. It looks far more aggressive to me and not as plain.

Reason I bought my TSX was it's uncomprimising style, luxury, and performance.
That's what attracted me to Acura.
Consumers shouldn't have to comprimise their personal taste due to brand.
The 09 Lineup from Acura deviated from its clean style despite its clean interior.
So why should I buy the 09 TSX if I'm constantly having to justify its purchase and comprimising on its grill?

For the record, other cars I looked at were the following:
- Lexus IS
- BMW 3-Series
- MB C-Class
- Infiniti G35 Sedan (had an '06 already)
- Pontiac G8 (although I wasn't very serious about it)

^ same cars I looked at.
well kind of. I never even considered the G8, I don't trust Pontiac.
I looked at the IS350, G35, C-300, 3-Series, TL and TSX.
the first time around in '07 out of them I decided on the TSX.
the second time around, last year, I decided on the G35s.
the 08 TL or the TL-S came in second.
I believe the new TSX is not for people like me. I don't want an "aggressive"
looking car. but the styling isn't why I chose against it. it's the interior
I really don't like, and the handling of the EPS is not for me. I was also disappointed
in the drive train, extra size and extra weight of the car.
my G35s to me is a big car, my 08 TSX is the right size. The TL is big to me,
and the new TSX is big to me. the new TL is huge.
so although the grille is still very ugly in my opinion, and cheap looking, it wasn't
even really close to the deciding factor for me. I could have just painted it... or
replaced it with a JDM one or something.

yes I do.
I really don't like the 2nd gen. TSX, no matter what badges you put on it.
I can't stand the interior, and I can't get past it.
I think the Honda version looks alot better due to the grille, but they're basically
the exact same car, and I like neither of them. I tried I suppose to like them,
I considered it, test drove it, but it was a big no right from the get go really.
and I really, really don't like the 4th gen. TL.

Funny you dislike the interior so much. It's the interior of the 1st gen TSX that turned me off back in '06 when I was looking to purchase a new vehicle. It just seemed cheap and too 'ordinary' to me, esspecially the cheap feeling steering wheel. Ended up getting the G35 instead.
The 2ng gen TSX however, I absolutely LOVE the interior.

biggest drawback to the car for me, that's why I'm redoing it all.
the new one seems even cheaper and crappier to me, and the
fist gen is at the lowest standard for me already, so I just couldn't do it.
the 06 G35 also has a terrible interior. the 07+ is the nice one.

oooh, that mazda3 is not so good. I am getting used to the grill on the tsx, but i think i am going to go the paint matching route. at least the tsx isnt driving around looking like it has a big stupid grin on its face.

^my car doesn't exist.
I'm just a guy that likes to say he owns cars but doesn't.
...
actually I've been holding back on pictures.
my car is beginning to undergo some pretty major changes, and I'd rather
just wait until I get most of it done before I start making threads.
I used to make a thread whenever a new JDM part would arrive, but that
got boring pretty fast so now I'm waiting to do a long progress thread.
but it's still months away as parts are still arriving and still being ordered.
^this is the most recent picture of the car. (poor car)
I have a photo gallery album with a bunch of the parts I have.
in a couple months there will be plenty of new pics to share.
oh, and you're right. it is just a matter of preference.
the things I don't like about the newer plastics are things many people like alot.
there's just things I don't care for, like the paddle shifters only, when I only will
use a console SS. but some people love and only use paddle shifters. they just
didn't build that car for me. but luckily they did build the 1st gen for me, so we
can all be happy!

Interesting isn't it? This is a good article on what people perceive in a car's 'face"

I think that Mazda might be another case where paint matching fixes the damage. Painting the mesh would significantly reduce the big smile apearance. That's the new way of things; cover up the designer's mistakes by camouflaging them.

And colin LOL at that picture comparison
