steering difference

Hi guys,

I was driving my moms 2012 tsx over thanksgiving and i noticed that her steering is fairly heavier than mine. I have a 2012 also that i got in october, just a few months after she got hers. is there something wrong with my steering and can the dealer fix it for me? we both got ours brand new and i drive mine more than she drives hers. could this be a factory defect?

Thanks

Same engines? They say the v6 handles different than the I4.

My '11 V6 steering effort is no different than an '12 4cyl. Both are much heavier than the '13 RDX.

they're both the I4 not the V6. Its weird because hers is only a few months older but our mileages are only about 2k miles apart. Idk if i should ask the dealer to check it when I go in for my first service or not..

I don't see a problem with mentioning it on the workorder. Most likely they will just give it an eyeball but its on the record if something happens later.

Do the cars have the same tires and tire pressures? Either could make a difference.

yup they have the same tires and the pressures were the same. i drove them both for about 20 mins each. hers just feels much more weighted and heavy while mine feels lighter.

Acura has revised the EPS tuning at least twice, so possibly they did so even within one model year's production. You could check the build dates, and possibly work from there.

Ya, check the build dates. Sounds like one is older than the other for sure.

I know there is a big difference between my wife's 09 and my 11 tsx. Her's is a bit touchy and rubber band like, were mine is heavier but smoother. Mine can be a little numb feeling than her's too.

I just drove a 2013 TL SHAWD 6mt the other day. Would have picked it up but the one thing that stood out that I couldn't stand was the steering. It was far too light and vague. Every bump I hit that jostled the car jostled me which jostled the steering wheel which... well, you get the point. I don't like light steering. I couldn't tell where the hell I was going until I got there. Point is in how it applies to the OP is that I believe Acura is just trying to go all out in terms of that effortless luxury feeling. They just keep revising the EPS until effort is non-existent. It is a terrible idea in my opinion but whatever. It seems the vast majority want that. I'm happy with my '10.

Drove the same car in automatic, and I too wasn't impressed with the handling. Heard all the raving reviews about the shawd's handling, so while waiting for the service on my tsx to be done, I got behind the wheel...and I noticed the steering is super light and sensitive. Are the TL's electric steering as well, because that thing was on the super fly. A BMW x3 i test drove (yea the suv) felt better stuck on the road than the TL, although in truth the shawd would have better grip im sure. I'm just speaking purely of steering, chassis feel.

Give me a 5 series instead!
